Matters needing attention when SketchUp model is imported into Lumion:

Tip 1: The Importance of Project Folders Before using software such as 3dsMax and Pr, we will first create an engineering document-a general folder, and put all the material files in this folder for later packaging and taking away or copying to other computers. The same principle should also apply to SketchUp and Lumion. It should be noted here that Lumion sometimes appears that Chinese names and Chinese paths are incompatible, which will be explained in detail in the later part of the article. So when you create a project folder, name it in English or Pinyin. Usually my habit is to name it 0 1, 02 and so on. Regarding the Chinese path, I suggest you save it to the desktop, because the address of the desktop defaults to the English path. After the general project folder is established, two new subfolders are created, named after Su and Lu respectively, which is convenient for our later management and use. Tip 2: Before SketchUp was imported into Lumion, did you save it in skp format or dae format? To be precise, SketchUp can be saved in skp or dae format and imported into Lumion successfully. However, there will be some differences. First of all, let me talk about saving to dae format and importing Lumion. To use this method, we must first ensure that all the fronts of the SketchUp model are facing us. If there is a negative side, that is, the blue side, there will be a broken side or a transparent side when importing into Lumion, which will bring a lot of inconvenience to the operation of Lumion in the later stage. The solution is that we can choose Face > Right-click > Select Flip Plane. For some large models with many negative sides, one by one, in turn, is very troublesome and needs the help of plug-ins. For example, sliding the flip in the Suapp plug-in is very easy to use, but you still need to manually slide the mouse across the corresponding face. It takes a long time and time. To sum up, you can use another method-SKP format for output. In earlier versions of SketchUp, importing the saved skp format into Lumion was not supported. However, with the update of the version, the skp format exported by SketchUp20 17 can be fully compatible with Lumion8.0. When the reverse side of the model faces us, that is, the blue side faces us, the software imported into Lumion will optimize the display normally. This is a good thing that we don't reverse the plane consciousness in modeling and need to reverse many models. Of course, there are some explanations about this operation principle on the Internet. Although the model exported by skp format can be identified in Lumion without manual flipping, it will make the model invisible, because the principle is that in the process of importing Lumion, Lumion will turn all faces into two parts, all of which are outward, so the model size will be much larger. Regarding this statement, I imported Lumion with some small and medium-sized models saved as skp, and I didn't feel that the size increased too much. Here, I suggest that students who use SketchUp20 17 and Lumion8.0 can just save the model in skp format and import it into Lumion instead of dae format. Tip 3: the relationship between SketchUp central axis and Lumion moving coordinate points. Before exporting, you need to confirm the location of coordinate origin in SketchUp. When we move the model to the coordinate origin, that is, the intersection origin of the red axis, the green axis and the blue axis, and import it into Lumion, there will be corresponding moving points in Lumion. In order to make the model move more conveniently in Lumion, we need to move the model to the middle of the coordinate axis in SketchUp. Tip 4: Material substitution and interactive use In version 8.3 officially released by Lumion, synchronous interaction with SketchUp model can be realized, but so far, most designers are still using versions 8.0 and 6.0, so we will continue to take version 8.0 as an example. When the SketchUp model changes and needs to be updated synchronously in Lumion, the SketchUp model needs to be saved in the original position first. In this case, saving in place means saving and overwriting the file in the previous path. So in Lumion, there are two ways to update the model. The first way is to select the corresponding material in Lumion's material panel, click the three horizontal buttons in the upper right corner, and select "Re-import Model". This method updates only the selected model material. In the second method, in Lumion, select the imported model, and there is a button on the right. Click it to update all the models in the scene. At the same time, there is another advantage to using this method. When the SketchUp path is lost or the file is lost, the previous model cannot be found and the update cannot be completed, but there is an alternative model. Hold down the Alt key and click the button to re-select the model, and the model can be completed. These two methods can be used selectively. Tip 5: Check the consistency of the unit. Lumion is measured in meters and inches. The common method is to set the unit as meters, and use the same unit name in SketchUp to ensure the consistency of the imported model size. SketchUp: Window > Model Information > Unit Skill 6: Enjoy the material name and distinguish the colors. In SketchUp, we mainly review the scheme. Later, when using Lumion to make renderings, we need to refer to the name of the material to replace the corresponding material, which requires us to try our best to improve the material name in SketchUp. The material is marked as "wood" in SketchUp, and the word "wood" can be displayed in Lumion, which is convenient for us to complete the material replacement. In addition to labeling materials, we also need to add different colors and textures to different materials in SketchUp. SketchUp comes with many material properties. Assuming that the material we use is not in the SketchUp material library, and we are not in a hurry to express it in SketchUp, we can use the function of "color" to distinguish colors first. Tip 7: When importing the method of determining the coordinate points of the main building objects into the building model, it is much more convenient to import them in batches than once because the model is very large. At this time, we may divide the model into terrain, building 1, building 2 and so on. At this time, you will find a problem. After the terrain and building model are imported, the building model can't find the corresponding location for placement, only an approximate location can be found. At this time, it can be processed with the help of auxiliary markers. First, you need to create a new triangle in SketchUp, which is located in the lower left corner of the building model. The color of the material needs to be distinguished from other model colors in the scene, set as a separate color, and import green punctuation and terrain into Lumion in the same file. Import the building model and determine its orientation. Then you need to hide the green coordinate points. Select the green coordinate point and add an "invisible" material to it, so it will disappear in Lumion. Tip 8: How to deal with the imported terrain line The first thing to do after importing the model is to pull up the terrain model. The terrain model is raised to a certain height. In this way, when the lawn height is set later, those road materials and forage materials will not be worn through the ground by the grass below. If we cross the ground, we will move at high altitude. At this time, even other models of tung may move together, so it is better to determine the height of the terrain file in advance. When some objects extend below the terrain file, such as making pools and underground parking lots, it is necessary to raise the model to show the objects below. Tip 9: Lumion files need to be saved as every time? When the model made by Lumion was saved again through modification, it was found that there was no "overwrite" button, only a "save as" button. Do I need to save as a copy every time I save? At this time, it is necessary to check whether there is a Chinese name in the file and the saving path, and all of them are changed to English names and English paths. At this time, you can complete the operation of "overwriting" the file. Tip 10: What happened to Lumion's appearance flashing frequently when moving the lens? After introducing Lumion, it is found that some faces flicker frequently in the process of rotating the lens. This situation still exists after animation rendering. The reason for this problem is that SketchUp's model has * * * faces, that is, two faces overlap, and there are two solutions. First, you need to move to check whether there are * * * faces in the two SketchUp models. If two models overlap, you need to use the Move or Adjust Height tool to move them slightly, and use the space bar to make fine adjustments. Secondly, it is found that the overlapping faces are caused by a SketchUp model, and the corresponding SketchUp source files need to be found to delete and separate faces. If the SketchUp source file is lost or deleted, you need to set one of the overlapping faces as "invisible" material in Lumion, hide it, and check whether this method will affect other effects. Tip 1 1: What if some materials suddenly display red after the model is imported into Lumion? In SketchUp, no red material was added, but after importing Lumion, some parts of the model lost their previous material properties, were marked as red, and the inspection surface was outward. In this case, it is likely that an error occurred during the import process, and so did the re-import. Don't panic at this time. This problem can be solved by re-endowing the model with other Lumion materials and adding the materials back by copying and pasting.
