How many people are over 60 in China?

By the end of 20021,the elderly population aged 60 and above in China reached 267 million, accounting for 18.9% of the total population.

The number of elderly people aged 65 and above exceeds 200 million, accounting for 14.2% of the total population. According to estimates, it is estimated that during the "Fourteenth Five-Year Plan" period, the total number of elderly people aged 60 and over will exceed 300 million, accounting for more than 20%, and they will enter the stage of moderate aging. Around 2035, the number of elderly people aged 60 and over will exceed 400 million, accounting for more than 30% of the total population, and they will enter a stage of severe aging.

Population aging will be the basic national condition of our country for a long time to come. The aging of population in China presents the trend and characteristics of large quantity, high speed, great difference and heavy task. If the population aged 60 and above is taken as the standard to define the elderly population, there will be nearly 500 million elderly people in China by 2050.

Healthy aging:

Healthy aging is the lowest cost and the best way to deal with population aging. Healthy aging mainly refers to maintaining the internal ability of the elderly, improving their external environment and prolonging their healthy life.

In order to promote the healthy aging, National Health Commission has specially issued a policy document to establish and improve the health service system for the elderly, which clearly establishes a "six-in-one" health education, preventive health care, disease diagnosis and treatment, rehabilitation care, long-term care and hospice care, covering urban and rural areas.
