Is fasting superstition?

The precepts of Baguanting are temporary precepts and fasting methods for monks and practitioners, which were formulated by the Buddha for disciples to practice at home. Not superstitious.

Eight Guanting warned as follows:

1. Take a bath in advance when fasting, and avoid the smell of soap when fasting. The food at noon must be vegetarian, and there can be no meat (including eggs). Alcohol is strictly forbidden, even if you put a drop in it when cooking. Any alcoholic food (such as fermented bean curd, etc.) ) is inedible.

2, lunch must be finished at once, not halfway. Once you get up, it means you're finished and you can't sit down and continue eating. Therefore, we should pay attention to putting all the food, including soup, in front of us at one time, and don't get up halfway to get food and water.

3, don't eat after noon, no more than a minute (here, eat once a day, avoid eating in the morning, especially solids, safety first).

4. No killing, no stealing, no adultery, no lying and no drinking should be strictly observed (be careful not to commit adultery). Don't take his/her things without the consent of relatives and friends. You can't talk about Buddhism on this day. If someone asks about Buddhism, they can't even tell you what you know.

5. Don't burn incense or wear valuables such as jewelry on the day off. Articles containing spices such as toothpaste, soap, shampoo, shower gel and skin care products cannot be used. You can't wear watches, necklaces, earrings, rings and other ornaments, and you can't string coral, gold, silver, turquoise, ivory and other valuables on the rosary.

6. No singing, dancing, watching TV or playing games. The day of abstinence.

Baguanting discipline: the temporary discipline and fasting method formulated by the Buddha for disciples who practice at home. Because people who practice at home have many complicated family and social affairs, there are also many obstacles to practicing Buddhism.

The Buddha is merciful to his disciples at home, so that they can live a clean and fast life and adapt to the characteristics of ordinary people at home. Therefore, he specially formulated a fast for practitioners at home, that is, the "eight official pavilions". The word "eight" refers to eight strict commandments.
