The origin of kidney day

Since the 20th century, chronic kidney disease has become one of the public enemies endangering people's health all over the world. The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Funds (IFKF) propose that the second Thursday of March every year be called "world kidney day". Its purpose is to promote doctors, nurses and government decision makers to pay attention to early chronic kidney disease, strengthen the understanding of nursing and treatment of early chronic kidney disease for individuals and families, and then reduce the impact of the silent "killer" of early chronic kidney disease on individuals and society.

The first world kidney day —— Thursday, March 9th, 2006, the theme was "Chronic Kidney Disease", and the China Nephrology Society put forward the slogan: "Care for health, care for kidneys —— early diagnosis and active prevention". World kidney day in 2007 is March 8, 2007. The theme is "Know Your Kidney" and the slogan is "Is Your Kidney Healthy?"

The International Society of Nephrology and the International Federation of Kidney Funds jointly advocated the establishment of world kidney day, aiming at:

1. Raise people's awareness of the high morbidity and mortality of chronic kidney disease and its related cardiovascular diseases;

2. Let people realize that the early detection and prevention of chronic kidney disease is an urgent problem in the world.

The focus of world kidney day is to make general practitioners and professional nurses with healthy kidneys more aware of the role of kidneys: as a risk sign of related chronic diseases (such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases), early detection of any form of kidney damage is an urgent problem to be solved now.
