The spinal cord is a part of the central nervous system, located in the spinal canal composed of vertebrae. It is long and cylindrical, with a total length of 4 1-45 cm. The upper end is connected with the medulla oblongata in the brain, and the lower end is in the shape of a cone, and finally reaches the lower edge of the first lumbar vertebra (the newborn is flat with the third lumbar vertebra). Many paired nerves (called spinal nerves) are distributed in the skin, muscles and internal organs of the whole body. Spinal cord is the pathway between peripheral nerve and brain. It is also the low-level center of many simple reflex activities.

Spinal cord is the pathway between peripheral nerve and brain. It is also the low-level center of many simple reflex activities. Spinal trauma is often accompanied by spinal cord injury. Severe spinal cord injury can cause lower limb paralysis, incontinence and so on.
The spinal cord is located in the spinal canal, cylindrical, slightly off, covered by a capsule, consistent with the curvature of the spine. The upper end of the spinal cord is connected to the medulla oblongata at the level of foramen magnum, and the lower end is flush with the lower edge of the first lumbar vertebra, about 40 ~ 45 cm long. The tapering of the end of the spinal cord is called the spine. Extending downward from the spine into a slender terminal filament, it is already a thin bundle without nerve tissue, which is wrapped by dura mater at the level of the second sacral vertebra and terminates downward behind the coccyx.
