In this issue, I will share with you the causes and preventive measures of diarrhea in weaned piglets.
First, the causes of diarrhea in weaned piglets
1 environmental change
Environmental pressure, if the indoor temperature difference exceeds 10℃, the diarrhea rate will increase by 25% ~ 30%. Excessive humidity will also increase the number of diarrhea. It turns out that the temperature in the delivery room is high and the temperature in the nursery room is low.
2 indigestion and incorrect feeding methods.
Because there is no restriction on feed after weaning, the digestive function of piglets is not perfect at this time, which leads to incomplete digestion and nutritional diarrhea.
3 decreased immunity
Due to the decrease of maternal antibody level, the incomplete development of piglet's immune system and a series of corresponding reactions such as environmental and feed changes, the original imperfect immune system has been reduced. In this way, the disease resistance of piglets is very fragile, and harmful microorganisms such as pathogenic Escherichia coli are easy to invade, leading to diarrhea in piglets.
4 viral diarrhea
Viral diarrhea caused by epidemic diarrhea, infectious gastroenteritis and coronavirus is mainly manifested as watery diarrhea, dehydration and vomiting.
The mortality rate of suckling piglets and piglets in the early stage of conservation is high.
Diarrhea caused by parasites
Diarrhea caused by coccidia and ascaris is common, which occurs in pigs over 20 days old and is chronic, usually accompanied by symptoms such as loss of appetite, cough, dyspnea and anemia. Some constipation and diarrhea appear alternately, or the body temperature rises. Sick pigs are stunted, die of exhaustion or become "stiff pigs". Preliminary diagnosis. Suspected to be caused by parasites, feces can be collected for pathogen culture or egg inspection.
Second, prevention and treatment measures of weaning diarrhea in piglets
1 Improve dietary energy
The stress of piglets can be alleviated by properly improving the energy level of diet and ensuring the absolute intake of energy needed every day. Proper addition of lactose, sucrose and glucose can maintain the intestinal health of piglets
2 Regulation of protein Feed in Diet
Generally, the reduction of protein level in diet should not exceed 20%. Reduce the amount of plant protein, increase the amount of animal protein, such as milk protein, plasma protein, etc., to reduce stress.
3. Supplement vitamins and trace elements appropriately.
Vitamins play an auxiliary enzyme catalytic role in the metabolic process. In the process of stress, one of the most important metabolic pathways is lipolysis, which requires a series of auxiliary factors to participate in the enzymatic reaction, among which vitamin E and vitamin C are the most important. Vitamin C is considered as an anti-stress factor, which can directly kill viruses or bacteria, strengthen neutrophils and effectively alleviate the stress caused by weaning.
Iron deficiency can cause iron deficiency anemia in piglets, which leads to decreased disease resistance, easy infection with bacteria, diarrhea and even death. Selenium deficiency leads to the decrease of glutathione peroxidase activity, and the lipid membrane of gastrointestinal smooth muscle cells will undergo qualitative changes due to peroxidation, thus causing digestive disorders and intractable diarrhea in piglets. Therefore, iron and selenium should be supplemented in weaning diet.
4. Add acidifier, enzyme preparation and probiotics into the feed.
5 transition from feed liquid to solid
It can be changed from liquid food to powder or granular material. Because piglets mainly eat milk during lactation, and because of the gastrointestinal characteristics of piglets, liquid food is easier to digest and has been tested by myself. Washing milk powder with warm water is like drinking milk powder to feed newly weaned piglets. It will greatly reduce the diarrhea of piglets and shorten the slaughter time. Six feeding methods
Feed less frequently to prevent indigestion and nutritional diarrhea.
