Dizziness is not a sign of anemia. Is meningioma serious?

Often feeling dizzy is not necessarily anemia, but also meningioma. Meningioma is a rare tumor, which mainly occurs in the brain. The human brain has a tumor, which is still a great threat to life. So is meningioma serious? The brain feels dizzy and unwell and needs to go to the hospital as soon as possible.

1, dizziness is not a sign of anemia.

Huge meningioma warns women of mistaken anemia and heatstroke.

The patient suddenly stood up from a sitting position six years ago and began to feel dizzy, thinking that it was only anemia and eating iron-containing food did not improve. Two years ago, I used to walk and drive to the left, and my gait was slightly lame. I thought it was a problem of balance, which only happened occasionally, and the blood test results of the previous medical insurance subsidies were normal, so I didn't care.

Until June 65438+May 2005, the symptoms became more serious. Ms. Shen has symptoms such as weakness of limbs and mental fatigue, which is mistaken for heatstroke. After seeking curettage, cupping, acupuncture and other treatments failed, she decided to follow the advice of the clinic doctor and go to a big hospital for examination in July. Results A "meningioma" with a diameter of 7 cm was found by CT and MRI. Fortunately, Ms. Shen has recovered through brain endoscope-assisted craniotomy.

2, the harm of meningioma

Meningiomas are easy to damage nerves and seriously threaten life.

Xu, a neurosurgeon at Guangtian Hospital, explained that "meningioma" as its name implies is a tumor that grows from the meninges. Meningiomas are mostly benign tumors, but it is rare for them to grow to more than 7 cm like Ms. Shen. Most brain tumors have obvious symptoms when they are about 4 or 5 cm in size, while Ms. Shen's brain tumors rarely grow in the ventricles, accounting for only 2% of all meningiomas. It is speculated that the ventricular space only provides tumor growth, and headache symptoms will only occur when it grows to a huge size.

Dr. Xu said that people often only look at the pain there, or misjudge the cause and delay the illness. In fact, to find out the real reason, they often have to observe their physical symptoms more carefully. A brain tumor as big as Ms. Shen, if left untreated, will oppress the brain tissue, which may affect intelligence, action, behavior and even consciousness and posture; If hydrocephalus, increased intracranial pressure and nerve tissue are squeezed, it may be life-threatening, especially for patients with family history of brain tumor.

3. How to find neuropathy early?

Dr. Xu provided two simple testing steps to remind people that if they feel unwell, they should go to a medical institution for medical treatment.

Put your hands naturally across your chest, stick your left heel on the tip of your right foot, and stick your right heel on your left toe and walk straight to see if you can walk straight. If you walk askew, you may be insane.

Hands forward, palms up, relax, close your eyes and see if you can keep your posture. If one hand can't maintain or droop, there may be neuropathy.

4. Clinical manifestations of meningioma

Meningiomas grow slowly and have a long clinical course, usually 1~3 years, and some of them are older. In the early stage of the disease, patients often have only a slight headache, which is intermittent. However, after several months and years, when the tumor becomes larger, with the increase of intracranial pressure, the headache becomes recurrent and aggravated, or accompanied by decreased vision and mental symptoms. When the increased intracranial pressure reaches a certain level, the patient's vision will obviously decrease, which will lead to blindness. Fundus examination showed high edema or secondary atrophy of optic papilla. If the tumor is located in an important functional area, the symptoms of nervous system localization may appear earlier, such as epilepsy, muscle weakness or sensory disturbance of the opposite limb, ataxia and so on. Therefore, all adults with the above symptoms or physical symptoms should actively further check and make sure.

Meningiomas are mostly benign, usually solid, and a few can be accompanied by cystic changes. Tumors are mostly single, often supplied by external carotid artery and internal carotid artery (or vertebrobasilar artery), and the blood circulation is quite rich. Tumors often invade or infiltrate the dura mater and skull, especially in meningiomas of convex brain, parasagittal sinus or sphenoid ridge, which make the skull proliferate and bulge, or lead to the destruction and thinning of the skull.
