How to choose a healthy cat

1 visual diagnosis

Visual inspection is to observe whether the posture and performance of the cat are abnormal when it is quiet. When doing visual inspection, it should be done when the cat is quiet. Otherwise, many symptoms will be covered up, and some false symptoms may appear, making our diagnosis inaccurate. In the veterinary clinic, cat owners often worry that their cats are sick, but they can't tell the specific situation clearly. They just said they didn't like eating, they didn't like moving, and so on.

mental state

Sick cats are inactive, their eyes are dull or half closed, and they are slow or even unresponsive to external stimuli. Under normal circumstances, sound stimulation often makes cats turn their ears or eardrums. The weaker this stress response is, the more serious the condition is. Sometimes, excitement, walking around, turning around or biting things are also manifestations of abnormal mental state.

nutritional status

Mainly from the coat and physical condition observation. Healthy cats are generally smooth and shiny, soft and elastic. When cats are sick or unwell, their fur is usually rough, burnt and dull. Healthy cats are full of muscles, while sick cats are often anorexia, emaciation and weakness.

situation

Mainly from the posture of cats standing, lying and walking, as well as the performance of lying and standing. When the limbs are painful, the affected limb does not dare to bear weight when standing and walking, and is weak when exercising.

temperature

A simple way to determine whether a cat has a fever is to judge it from its nose, ears and mental state. If the cat's body temperature rises, the cat's nose is dry and hot, its ear root or body surface temperature is higher than normal, and it also shows thirst, listlessness and loss of appetite.

breathe

For example, cats breathe frequently, some even breathe through their mouths, and their abdomen vibrates, indicating that cats suffer from call system diseases or other systemic infections.

Oral observation

The color of oral mucosa can also judge the severity of the disease. The normal oral color of cats should be pink. When it has a fever, its oral color will darken, and when it is anemic, it will be pale. When it has hepatobiliary diseases, it may appear burnt yellow, and when it is in a state of severe shock, its oral color will be blue.

2 palpation

Palpation is mainly to observe the size of abdominal circumference and the tension of abdominal wall. Abdominal flatulence is characterized by increased abdominal accumulation and tense abdominal wall. The lower part of abdominal circumference is enlarged, but there is a sense of fluctuation when you touch the pressure with your hand. You should pay attention to whether there is abdominal mucosal infection or abdominal pain. In addition, the lower abdomen is swollen, indicating edema.

3 olfactory diagnosis

It is mainly applied to the breath exhaled by cats, oral odor and the special smell of cat feces, which is an important clue to prompt respiratory and lung diseases.
