What is mental health?

When everyone talks about hygiene, they all think it is physical hygiene. In fact, health includes not only physical health, but also mental health. People usually attach great importance to physical health, but pay little attention to mental health, and even many people don't know what mental health is. Many people attach importance to nutrition, but they don't know the mental health when eating. Although the food itself is rich in nutrition, it can't be digested well because of its unhappy mood, which affects the secretion of digestive glands. Some people attach great importance to sleep, but because they don't understand the mental health of sleep, they love reading novels before going to bed, and they are emotional and difficult to fall asleep. These examples show that many people attach importance to physical health and neglect mental health. In fact, physical health and mental health are closely related and equally important. The two complement each other and are indispensable.

Mental health, also known as mental health, is a psychological principle and method about protecting and promoting people's mental health. Mental health can not only prevent the occurrence of mental illness, but also cultivate people's character, cultivate people's sentiment and promote people's mental health.

The content of mental health is very extensive. Different ages have different psychological characteristics, and the content of mental health is not the same. People of different ages have certain physiological and psychological characteristics, and all have psychological problems related to them. According to the physical and mental characteristics of different ages, it is the main goal of individual mental health to effectively prevent some psychological conflicts and solve some psychological problems in time. Different groups, such as families, schools, factories and mines, and the army, have different living and working conditions, and the content of mental health is also different. Mental health among different groups is also very important. For example, family harmony and the coordination of husband and wife's sexual life have a good psychological impact on people. Friendship and unity among colleagues contribute to people's mental health.

Pay attention to hygiene, prevent diseases and keep healthy, which has been widely valued by people. However, how to achieve hygiene? I'm afraid this is very different in view and practice. When many people talk about hygiene, they think of paying attention to public hygiene, personal hygiene, strengthening physical exercise, taking proper nutrition and not eating spoiled food. These are undoubtedly important. But doing so can only prevent the invasion of microorganisms seen under the microscope, can only exercise muscles and bones more effectively, and can not guarantee people's health. At this time, because people are alive, they will inevitably suffer from various contradictions and setbacks, so social and psychological factors are also harmful to people's health. For example, a person is physically strong, but his reason is not good, his personality is abnormal, and he cannot work and live normally. How can he be said to be "healthy"? Therefore, the World Health Organization revised the definition of health as follows: health "not only has no physical defects and diseases, but also has a complete physiological, psychological state and social adaptability." In other words, to be healthy, people must be physically and mentally healthy, and this kind of health is really healthy. What can be done to achieve the goal of comprehensive physical and mental health? Professor Pan Wei, an outstanding psychologist in China, pointed out as early as forty years ago: "We pay attention to physical health, so we study physical health;" In order to make the psychological development sound, we must attach importance to mental health. "From this perspective, mental health is a means to achieve mental health.

Second, the standard of mental health

The purpose of mental health is to achieve mental health, but is there a standard for mental health? Psychologists have done a lot of work on this complex problem, but so far there is no universally recognized ideal standard. In order to make mental health generally follow, American humanistic psychologists Maslow and Miethman listed the following ten revised standards for reference only.

1. Have a full sense of security;

2. Fully understand yourself and be able to make an appropriate estimate of your ability;

3. Life goals and ideals are realistic;

4. Keep in touch with the real environment;

5. Can maintain the integrity and harmony of personality;

6. Ability to learn from experience;

7. Can maintain good interpersonal relationships;

8. Moderate emotional venting and control;

9. Give full play to individuality without violating the collective will;

10. Under the premise of not violating social ethics, the basic needs of individuals can be properly met.

According to the above ten criteria, it can be said that it is difficult to find a completely healthy person. Therefore, we can only say that people who pay attention to mental health are close to the above standards, while those who don't pay attention to mental health are far from reaching the above standards. Away from the above standards, not only personality is abnormal, but also prone to various psychogenic diseases. Therefore, for the sake of mental health, everyone should pay attention to mental health.

Third, the scope of mental health work.

Everyone should pay attention to mental health, and all walks of life should pay attention to mental health; People should not only consciously and actively pay attention to personal mental health, but also care about the mental health of the elderly and children. Therefore, the scope of mental health is very wide, and with the development of society and the progress of science and technology, the scope of mental health will be expanded. From the current situation of mental health work at home and abroad, the scope of mental health work can be summarized as follows: first, guide the process of marriage, mate selection and pregnancy from the perspective of eugenics, and improve the mental health quality of individuals; The second is to study the characteristics and laws of mental health in different age stages (such as children, teenagers, youth, middle-aged people and the elderly) and guide people of all age stages to do mental health work well; Third, study the mental health problems in various social groups, so that people can adapt to the environment well and improve interpersonal relationships in families, schools, work units and amateur groups, so as to work, study and live comfortably; Fourth, study the mechanism and measures that individuals take the initiative to pay attention to mental health, guide people to improve their ability to resist setbacks, be masters of emotional regulation, correct bad behaviors and personality characteristics, and master one or more physical and mental relaxation skills so as to adjust their physical and mental balance at any time and pay attention to mental health.
