Count the respiratory rate.
Generally speaking, a healthy newborn baby will cry several times after birth, and then start breathing with his lungs. Breathing is stable and regular, with 40-50 breaths per minute two weeks before birth, and the pulse is 120- 140 breaths per minute.
However, sometimes the newborn baby's breathing is fast and slow, and even has a slight pause. This situation is not necessarily abnormal. It is necessary to observe the specific performance of the baby and judge whether the baby has special circumstances, because the breathing of the newborn baby may be affected by many situations, such as crying and breathing during activities, which can reach about 80 times per minute.
Take your temperature.
The body temperature of healthy newborn babies is between 37℃ and 37.5℃ at birth, and has been kept between 36℃ and 37.5℃ since then.
Axillary is the most convenient and commonly used method to measure the temperature of newborn babies. Because the baby is easy to bite the thermometer, oral measurement is generally not needed. If it is impossible to measure under the armpit for various reasons, the anal temperature can be measured. The body temperature of newborn babies fluctuates greatly during the day, which is often lower in the morning, slightly higher during the day and higher at night. Therefore, the best time to take your baby's temperature is when you get up every morning and before going to bed at night. Don't take your temperature within half an hour after drinking boiled water and eating, or after strenuous exercise, because your temperature will definitely be high at this time.
Because the development of the body temperature center is not perfect, the newborn baby's body temperature regulation ability is poor, and it is not easy to keep the body temperature stable, so it is easy to be affected by the environment and change. Therefore, when the newborn baby is delivered from the mother within 1~2 hours, the body temperature will drop by about 2.5℃, and then the body temperature will gradually rise to the normal temperature. In addition, because the newborn baby has thin subcutaneous fat and immature sweat glands, the heat dissipation is faster than that of adults. When the ambient temperature is too high or too warm, and the newborn baby's intake of water is insufficient, the newborn baby's body temperature will rise. On the contrary, the body temperature will drop.
Weigh yourself.
The normal weight of newborn babies is generally 2500~4000 grams. Underweight newborns belong to immature babies, while overweight babies belong to macrosomia.
The weight of a newborn baby generally refers to the naked weight, that is, the weight of clothes and diapers worn by the baby is subtracted. There are two ways to weigh your baby, which are very simple and can be done at home.
The first method is to weigh the baby with a small sheet, and then subtract the weight of the small sheet and all the clothes including diapers, which is the baby's weight.
The second method is for parents to stand on the scale with their baby in their arms and weigh it, and subtract the weight of adults, which is the weight of the baby.
Measure height
It is normal for a newborn baby to be equal to or more than 45 cm tall.
The height of a newborn baby should be the length from the sole of the foot to the top of the head. Be careful not to touch your toes when measuring. There are two methods of measurement.
Measuring board: let the baby lie on his back on the center line of the bottom board of the measuring board, with his head touching the head board and facing upward. The measurer stands on the right side of the baby, and presses the baby's knees straight with his left hand, so that the baby's lower limbs are straight and close together and cling to the bottom plate of the measuring board; Move the pedal with your right hand to make it close to the baby's sole and read the scale of body length.
Simple measurement of soft ruler: let the baby lie on a table or wooden bed to straighten the baby's neck and lower limbs, stick a soft ruler on the table or the edge of the bed, put two pieces of cardboard on the baby's head and sole respectively, and read the length from the inside of the headboard to the inside of the footboard, which is the body length.
Measure the head circumference
The normal head circumference of newborn babies is between 30.4 and 37.9 cm.
When measuring, prepare a soft ruler, find the arch of the baby's eyebrows (the highest point of the eyebrows), find the midpoint of the connecting line between the left and right eyebrows, and put the zero point of the soft ruler here as the starting point. Wrap the soft ruler around the baby's head horizontally along the eyebrows, find the occipital tubercle at the back of the baby's head, bypass the midpoint of the tubercle (the highest point at the back of the baby's head), and then return to the forebrain and the starting point. The reading is the baby's head circumference.
Measure your bust.
The chest circumference of a normal newborn baby is smaller than its head circumference 1~2 cm, generally 3 1~33 cm. If the baby's chest circumference is much smaller than the head circumference, the baby may have hydrocephalus; If the baby's chest circumference is much larger than the head circumference, then the baby may suffer from microcephaly.
Only a soft ruler is needed to measure the chest circumference of a newborn baby. Let the baby lie flat on the bed and lay his hands flat naturally. Fix the zero point of the soft ruler on the lower edge of the baby's nipple, so that the soft ruler touches the skin and returns to the zero point through the lower edges of the two shoulder blades around the bust. The read value is the bust.
