These five new cities are important areas set up by the Shanghai Municipal Government to promote the optimization of urban spatial layout and the adjustment of population structure. These five new cities are located in different directions of Shanghai, each with its own characteristics and development orientation.
For example, Jiading New Town focuses on automobile industry and technology industry, Qingpu New Town focuses on ecological livability and cultural tourism, Songjiang New Town is committed to building an important node of G60 technology corridor in the Yangtze River Delta, Fengxian New Town focuses on beautiful and healthy industries, and Nanhui New Town relies on Lingang New District to develop advanced manufacturing and modern service industries.
