Xiamen, which belongs to Fujian Province, is also called Ludao, or Xiamen Heron for short. Sub-provincial cities, special economic zones and important central cities along the southeast coast. Xiamen is located at the southeast end of Fujian Province, bordering kinmen county in the east, Longhai City and Zhangzhou Investment Promotion Bureau Economic and Technological Development Zone in the south, and bordering Nan 'an City, Anxi County, Changtai County and Zhangzhou Taiwanese Investment Zone on land.

Fujian dialect is used locally in Xiamen dialect. Minnan dialect is one of the eight major dialects in China, and it is a Chinese dialect that transcends regional and provincial boundaries.
It is mainly used in southern Fujian, Chaoshan area in eastern Guangdong, parts of Taiwan Province Province, parts of Hainan Province and Leizhou Peninsula in Guangdong Province, and the central and northeastern regions of Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Jiangsu and Fujian, as well as "Fulao dialect" which speaks Minnan dialect (belonging to "Fujian-Taiwan dialect").
Over the past 1000 years, many people in southern Fujian and Chaoshan have emigrated to make a living abroad. People and language go hand in hand, and a considerable number of overseas Chinese in Southeast Asian countries still use Minnan as a communication tool.
