State Key Laboratory of Geological Disaster Prevention and Geological Environmental Protection (Chengdu University of Technology) is open to the public.

The laboratory has specially formulated the management method of public open activities, which is open to the public for two weeks every year, so that the public can visit, observe and understand the large-scale instruments and equipment of the laboratory, popularize the popular science knowledge of geological disaster prevention, cultivate young people's scientific interest and raise the public's awareness of geological disaster prevention.

Since 2009, the laboratory has officially implemented the "Public Open Week", which is open to the whole society twice a year regularly and irregularly. During the first "Public Open Week" from May 12 to May 16, 2009, the laboratory used shaking table to simulate earthquake vibration, rainfall simulation equipment to simulate the impact of rainfall on landslides, debris flow simulation device to demonstrate the formation and movement process of natural debris flow, and high-performance computer to demonstrate the dynamic process of collapse, landslide and debris flow, which attracted nearly 3000 people from all walks of life to participate and observe. Public opening activities not only publicize and popularize the knowledge of geological disaster prevention, but also expand the influence of the laboratory. Therefore, in 2009, the laboratory was awarded the "popular science education base" by the Ministry of Land and Resources.
