1. Scientific research platforms
As of March 2021, the university has 86 scientific research platforms at the national, provincial and ministerial levels, including 1 each of the State Key Laboratory, the National Clinical Medical Research Center, the National Science Education Base, the National Base for International Science and Technology Cooperation and the National Model Base for Innovative Talent Training. As of March 2021, the university has been awarded 2 second prizes of National Natural Science, 1 second prize of National Technological Invention, 15 second prizes of National Scientific and Technological Progress, 1 National Patent Excellence Award, and 53 first prizes of science and technology at provincial and ministerial levels for the first time as the first unit of completion.
4 scientific and technological achievements were selected as the top ten annual progress of science and technology in the country, three consecutive five-year plan to take the lead in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases of the national science and technology major special projects and get rolling support, 2020 was awarded the National Natural Fund 303.

The Journal of Southern Medical University (former Journal of the First Military Medical University) is a high-level comprehensive medical and health journal.
The journal has been included in PMC, Medline, CA, EMBASE in the Netherlands, China Science Citation Database (CSCD), China Science and Technology Paper Statistical Source Database, and Chinese Core Journals Key List, and other important databases in China and abroad.
In 2019, we were selected as one of the "China Science and Technology Journal Excellence Action Plan"; we have been honored as one of the "100 Outstanding Chinese Academic Journals" (2013-2020) for 8 consecutive years.

As of March 2021, the university has established friendly relations with 61 universities, medical and research institutions in 20 countries and regions in the world.
As of December 2019, the university has formulated the "Medium-term (2018-2020) Plan for Training Abroad on Official Business" to select and send professional and technical personnel and management cadres to international high-level medical teaching and research institutions for further training.
Since 2018, it has cooperated with Harvard Medical School in the United States to declare the base project of the Discipline Innovation and Intelligence Program.
Conducting the "Core Competency Building and Development Program for General Practitioners" with the Queensland Department of Health, Australia, and the "Mid-Term Training Program for Professionals" with the University Hospital of Siena, Italy, a total of 687 faculty members have been selected and dispatched abroad for exchange visits and thematic training. The program has also sent a total of 687 teachers abroad for exchanges and special training.
