What does the icon Hospital mean?

The Star of Life*** has six corners, each of which represents a function of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system, including: patient inspection, reporting, ambulance attendance, on-site treatment, care during transportation, and transportation to a specific medical unit.

The origin of the snake and scepter in the center of the symbol has two different stories, the first of which is an ancient Greek myth that the snake and scepter commemorated Asclepius, the great healer. After his resurrection and official canonization, Asclepius usually appeared in front of the people in a standing position, wearing a robe and holding a scepter with a serpent wrapped around it, which later became the symbol of medicine. The snake on the scepter is a symbol of medicine and health.

The second origin is based on the Bible: Legend has it that Moses cast a serpent in the shape of bronze and set it on a pillar, so that if someone was bitten by a poisonous snake, he would be cured as soon as he went to the pillar and gazed at the snake cast in bronze. These two stories are the background stories that were used to design the Star of Life symbol.
