What is thermal paper?

The so-called thermal paper refers to the information recording paper coated with color-forming substances and excited by thermal signals to develop color by itself. That is to say, thermal paper is a special coated paper, which gives energy (heat energy) to the paper surface, so that the physical or chemical properties of the substance (developer) change, thus obtaining an image.

Thermal paper develops rapidly with the popularity of fax machines all over the world. However, due to the development of electronic communication, thermal paper is not only popular in personal homes in the form of fax paper, but also appears in businesses, supermarkets, banks, hospitals, airports and other fields. Its uses are more and more extensive, its varieties are more and more, and its scope of application is wider and wider. At present, the main application fields are as follows.

(1) Thermal Paper for Fax Machine

Mainly used in various types of thermal paper fax machines. It is used for commercial and domestic purposes. At present, this kind of thermal paper machine accounts for about half of the total output, and it has been the main direction of thermal paper since the late 1980s. Its quality goal is to pursue high speed of fax recording, high density of lines (blackness) and preservation after recording. From the recording speed, it has developed from G2 to G3 or G4, which can achieve high-speed fax of about 15S per A4 size paper.

(2) Thermal paper for printing and terminal recording.

In order to meet the needs of various new terminal recording devices, different varieties have been developed, which can be widely used in word processors, medical experiment and industrial experiments, computer-aided design and production (CAD/CMA for short), recording and printing of counters, ATM/CD and portable terminal printers, and receipt recording of highways and taxis.

(3) Thermal paper for labels and bills

In recent years, new thermal paper products have been extended to the field of labels, and the development speed is very fast. It is a combination of heat-sensitive paper and self-adhesive label. The adhesive is coated on the back of thermonuclear paper and compounded on release paper to print labels.
