The Lenovo YOGA series 2022 new product launch conference was held in May. At that time, I fell in love with this extremely light weight and good-looking air 13S Carbon, which is said to be only 984 grams. After the meeting, I specially joined the Lenovo air 13S WeChat group to inquire about the news in real time.
Why choose an ultra-light laptop? This starts with my last computer. I bought the same Lenovo YOGA model during Double Eleven five and a half years ago. It looked novel at the time. It had an all-aluminum alloy casing and was not afraid of being dropped. It also had a touch screen. , but just didn't pay attention to the weight of the machine. As a result, I bought a "Happy Fly" last year (a four-month nationwide fly-anywhere activity launched by China Southern Airlines). I carried it with a drone on my back and traveled around the country. It was really exhausting. I have been looking for a lightweight model since I came back. There is no such thing as the lightest laptop, there are only lighter laptops.
Nowadays, neither merchants nor self-media people know how to define "thin and light notebook". Some people have been talking about it for a long time and wrote a long article without mentioning the weight of the machine. How do you explain it? Is it a thin and light notebook? How much is considered light and how thick is considered thin? I was really speechless when I saw these recharge ghosts.
After the press conference, we waited for a month. It was not until June 17 that the air 13S was hurriedly launched. During this period, I checked online for reviews of this model. Except for the official promotional video, there was no such thing. Review articles and videos. It’s really strange. It seems that not many people pay attention to this unpopular model, and Lenovo is not the main model, so it cannot attract the attention of the self-media and attract traffic.
Get to the point
The WeChat group announced that pre-sales will start on June 9th, with a deposit of 200 yuan and the balance due on the 17th. The pre-sale price of the new product is 300 yuan cheaper than the official price. . I was not impulsive at the time. Firstly, I wanted to see everyone's reaction to the machine after purchasing it. Secondly, I was afraid that there would be some problems with the new product on the market, and the quality of the improved batch would be better.
The second point is really based on my last YOGA computer. I have used that computer for five and a half years without any problems, but the touch screen has long been unusable. The phenomenon is that the touch does not work. , the mouse also stopped working and kept shaking there. I had no choice but to turn off the touch screen in the device management and everything was fine. However, after three years of use, the hinges and edges of the screen began to crack and sticky glue kept flowing out. I was very embarrassed once when I went through security check on an airplane. My computer had to be taken out separately for inspection. When the security inspector picked up my computer, my hands were stuck with mucus. The security inspector frowned and asked: What else can be hidden in the computer? Liquid, I want to take it for a check..., haha, of course I'm not afraid of checking it, that's the liquid given to me by Lenovo Computer!
I’m going too far again. Let’s talk about why I bought it impulsively later. It starts with the coupons issued by the Shenzhen government. The payment time on the 17th is set at 20:00 that night. I was also observing in the group at 20 o'clock, and saw group members exclaiming that Shenzhen coupons were available, 600 off 6000, and group members from other places also shouted, Shenzhen is really awesome. In addition to envy, friends from other places are also unambiguous. It is very cost-effective to directly ask friends in Shenzhen to help place orders and then send them to them.
Naturally, I couldn’t hide my excitement when I saw this. After calculation, the government subsidy on the listing price = a discount of 900 yuan. It will be difficult to reduce to this price after one year, especially when there is a shortage of chips. (According to group friends, part of the reason for the delay in the launch was the shortage of chips), so I was impulsive, regardless of the rules and regulations mentioned earlier, and got in the car! On the night of the 17th, I bought one for 6,399 yuan (see picture 3).
After placing the order, it has not been shipped. There has been no delivery information for the order. On the 25th, it suddenly showed that it was shipped from Foshan and could be reached on the same day.
It was already evening when I received the computer, so I took an unboxing video. The real machine is really amazing. Let me describe it in detail:
The actual weight after receiving it was 988 grams (see Figure 1), and the official announcement of 984 grams is within the allowable error range.
The upper shell is carbon fiber white. Generally speaking, carbon fiber should be black or gray. It is rare to see it made into white. I wonder whether the white color is strong and whether it will fade over time. It remains to be investigated (I bought a computer with an aluminum alloy casing before because it does not discolor). The official announcement of the bottom shell is that it is made of magnesium-aluminum alloy, which is lighter and stronger than aluminum alloy. The combination of the upper and lower shells should be more resistant to falling and stronger. The material on the middle keyboard surface feels like aluminum, but also feels like plastic, which cannot be verified.
The LED screen frame is much narrower than before, and it also looks more coordinated. The 13.3-inch screen does not feel small when you are immersed in it. The screen glass is matte or foggy, which is non-reflective and has a matte-like texture. The disadvantage is that it is not transparent and feels like frosted glass. The touch screen is called ten-point touch. I don’t know what these ten points refer to and how to use it, and I didn’t study it. Also, I don’t know if there will be glue leakage.
Computer lock screen unlocking now relies solely on one face, with built-in infrared face recognition (see Figure 2). The screen automatically locks when people leave and automatically unlocks when people come. It is quite convenient and eliminates the need for fingerprints. Or the trouble of entering passwords all day long. But sometimes I get crazy and refuse to recognize people, and force you to enter your password. The faces I recorded without glasses before were no longer recognized when I put them on. I studied it again, set up face enhancement, and recorded it again with glasses on, which solved the problem perfectly.
After the function of automatically turning on the phone when opening the cover and turning off automatically when closing the cover is turned on, it is quite easy to use.
Many netizens are concerned about the feel of the keyboard. They can only say that the feel is average. There is key travel but average touch. It is barely usable.
There are not many external interfaces, there are only two type-C interfaces, one is for charging, and there is only one left, which is a bit awkward for engineering use. The dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack has been cancelled, leaving only a type-C headphone plug and no interface.
Although only one type-C port has a charging mark, both ports can be charged during actual use.
Although the computer comes with a large touch pad and can be operated by touching the screen, and it is capable of doing general text work, but if you really want to draw circuit board diagrams, you still need to draw CAD drawings. With mouse. However, it is very awkward to use a traditional mouse on a laptop with a type-C port. It requires a docking station to connect a wired or wireless mouse. It also requires a docking station to be carried on the back, and the clinking sound is very inconvenient and uncomfortable. Therefore, it is very necessary to choose a Bluetooth mouse. It does not require an adapter or a docking station. It can be used directly by connecting to the computer via Bluetooth. But when choosing one, you must check whether the mouse supports Bluetooth version 5.0. The previous version 3.0 Bluetooth mouse was very difficult to use, often disconnected, and was slow to respond and slow to use. The Bluetooth 5.0 version of the mouse I bought now does not have these problems, and it feels basically the same as the 2.4G wireless mouse.
The supplied power adapter is 65W and the cord is 2 meters long, which is similar in size to current mobile phone fast charging chargers. It is equipped with a docking station, which has U port, HDIM and monitor D port to facilitate video output. The 3.5 headphone jack is placed on the docking station, which is also done to reduce weight.
I have been using it for 6 days now, and the heat dissipation is good. The sound of the fan is very small, and you can hardly hear it if you don’t pay attention. When you touch it, the heat is mainly concentrated in the upper left area of ??the back, and the heat is acceptable. There is no heat where the wrist touches the typing area, and the design is reasonable. The stupid computer I bought before was very hot where I rested it on my wrist, and I had to jump while typing. This kind of designer really went too far.
The smoothness and screen clarity are much better than the computer I had five years ago. After all, the memory has been increased to 16G, and the screen resolution and refresh rate have reached a new level.
The only problem found so far is that the screen brightness changes (on some occasions), flickering on and off, which is very uncomfortable (a netizen in the group also reported this problem). I've turned off automatic brightness adjustment and related automatic brightness settings, but it still doesn't solve the problem. But in another application scenario, it won't flicker. I don't know why.
