The ship was originally designed as a multi-purpose transport ship in the Arctic region. After the upgrade, all equipment and facilities above the main deck of the "Snow Dragon" have been updated. The clean laboratory area on the ship has also been expanded from more than 200 square meters to 580 square meters, and all laboratory equipment has been replaced. New atmospheric sampling rooms, data processing centers, sample rooms, telescopic cranes and other scientific research facilities have also been built. The renovated "Snow Dragon" has advanced navigation, positioning, and automatic driving systems, and is equipped with advanced communication systems, a hangar that can accommodate two Ka-32 helicopters, an apron and supporting equipment. It is also equipped with a "Snow Eagle" helicopter, a Yellow River boat and a Zhongshan barge to improve navigation support and transportation capabilities.
The "Snow Dragon" ship is equipped with an adjustable propeller, which can be operated flexibly during navigation and is conducive to ice breaking. The hull is made of E-grade steel plates and will not deform even in severe cold weather conditions of minus 40°C. The ship can transport general cargo, large heavy cargo and various vehicles (with roll-off warehouse), refrigerated cargo, valuable cargo, explosives, minerals, standard containers and various oils. Generally, two inspection team members share a room, each room is about 10 square meters, with central air conditioning, a bathroom with 24-hour hot water supply, a refrigerator, a wardrobe, a writing desk, etc., and there are ports in the room for Internet access and email. The "Snow Dragon" also has complete medical facilities and entertainment facilities such as a swimming pool, library, gym, indoor basketball court, Internet cafe, karaoke, laundry room, and operating room. The seawater used in the swimming pool is newly extracted from the clean sea and is naturally free of pollution. There are 128 berths on the ship, which provides the basic necessary conditions for polar expedition work and can sail to any sea area in the world.
There are many “maps”
You can see various maps in the restaurant, conference room, cab, and corridors on the "Snow Dragon", including world maps , Arctic map, Antarctic map, scientific expedition voyage map, China's first Arctic scientific expedition route map, as well as topographic maps of Zhongshan Station and Great Wall Station in Antarctica... Many team members also brought their own maps and even globes. There are also a large number of charts in the wheelhouse.
There are many "rules"
There are many, many "codes" on the "Snow Dragon".
Environmental protection rules: Garbage must be classified and managed, and garbage is not allowed to be dumped into the sea;
Safety rules: Slippers are not allowed outside the accommodation cabin. Wearing slippers on the ship is inconvenient and can easily cause injury;
Fire Code: Smoking is prohibited outside the accommodation on board the ship. Since the scientific expedition carried helicopters and aviation gasoline, smoking is strictly prohibited;
Water Saving Code: We must save water for self-evident reasons.
There are many "lectures"
The scientific and technological personnel participating in the polar scientific expedition team come from many different fields. In order to enhance understanding and increase knowledge of various subjects and topics, the expedition team often holds various lectures.
