A Guide to Studying in Bulgaria for International Students

Bulgaria’s amazing cultural life and wonderful educational nature have attracted many international students to choose to study here. I have put together a guide for international students about studying in Bulgaria. If you are interested, please come and take a look!

Why study in Bulgaria?

Although Bulgaria is not an ideal choice for studying abroad, its university education has its advantages, especially since it is a member of the European Union. The quality of universities in Bulgaria is guaranteed by the Bulgarian National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency (NEAA), a full member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA). Some Bulgarian universities offer all courses in English. Other universities offer English electives.

Entry and visa regulations

British and EU residents do not need a visa to study in Bulgaria and can apply directly to the school. However, UK and EU students need to register with the police, after which they will be issued a national identity card and five years of temporary residency. Students can apply to any university in Bulgaria. They should contact their chosen university to find out specific entry requirements. Application deadlines vary by school, but students are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

Financing your studies

Bulgarian university fees vary widely, depending on the course and language of instruction. Tuition fees for Bulgarian language courses are lower, ranging from £1,594 to £6,378 per year. UK and EU students in Bulgaria are eligible to apply for Bulgaria Tuition Fee Loans. Students are also eligible for grants to cover living costs. Students can apply for government scholarships and university scholarships just like domestic students.

EU students can work in Bulgaria without any additional permission, but it is difficult to find a job due to the relatively high unemployment rate in Bulgaria. Seasonal jobs in the ski industry are often available, but the pay is low.

Accommodation

Bulgarian universities usually have student dormitories. Seats are limited, first come first served. However, many students prefer to rent privately.

Career Counseling

Varna University of Management maintains good relations with some of the major hotel chains in Bulgaria, such as Holiday Inn, Iberiastar, Solmelia, etc. We connect a large number of small local hospitality businesses with our current students and graduates. Varna University of Management graduates enjoy a high reputation on the local and international labor market. Most of them hold middle and senior management positions in international organizations, including: global hotel chains, trading companies, educational institutions, financial and consulting companies.

They stand out due to their language knowledge, international experience and contemporary education.

Given that half of students go on to seek careers in business-related activities, they should receive some combination of guidance that will give them a higher level of confidence in a successful career.
