Sven Bauer, CEO and founder of BMZ Group, and Michael Son, Senior Vice President of Samsung SDI, started relevant negotiations in Korea in early February of 20 18.
An executive of Samsung SDI said that the cooperation between the company and BMZ Group has a long history. At present, the two sides are discussing future battery supply cooperation, but the scale of the transaction has not yet been determined.
According to the data, BMZ Group is a global supplier of lithium-ion battery solutions, headquartered in Germany, with production bases in China, Poland and the United States, and offices in Japan and France. In addition, BMZ Group also has R&D centers around the world.
Since 1994, BMZ Group has provided specialized customized battery system solutions for more than 2,000 world-renowned enterprises, covering power batteries, energy storage systems, medical and industrial equipment, power tools and other application fields. Products include: electric vehicles, battery bicycles (E-Bike), ESS energy storage systems, mobile medical equipment, power tools, radio drills, electric screwdrivers, electric garden tools, etc.
It is worth mentioning that BMZ Group plans to double the output of battery systems for electric vehicles supplied to major European automakers next year. In order to further meet the market demand, the company acquired TerraE, a German battery manufacturer, and plans to invest 300 million euros to build an 8GWh battery production line. The first phase of production capacity planning is 4GWh, which is expected to be put into production in 2020.
As the world's leading power battery giant, this year, Samsung SDI has made outstanding achievements in market cooperation performance, capacity expansion and technological progress.
According to financial data, Samsung SDI's sales in Q2 this year were 2.25 trillion won, and its operating profit was 65.438+0.528 billion won, an increase of about 28 times compared with the same period of last year (in the second quarter of 2065.438+07, Samsung SDI's operating profit was only 5.5 billion won, and at that time, due to the subsequent impact of the explosion crisis of the GalaxyNote7 battery in 2065.438+06, among them, the sales of the battery business was.
In terms of market cooperation, in June 5438+10, Korean media reported that Hyundai Motor Group was considering cooperating with Samsung SDI to develop electric vehicle batteries. In September, it was reported that Samsung SDI would supply cylindrical batteries to electric vehicles of Jaguar Land Rover. It is expected that batteries with an annual output of 5 GWh will be provided in the initial stage. In March, Webasto and Samsung SDI signed a letter of intent for cooperation at Webasto headquarters in Stockdorf, Munich, and planned to cooperate in the field of manufacturing high-voltage power batteries for commercial vehicles.
In terms of capacity expansion, in June this year, Samsung SDI plans to open a $62.7 million car battery factory near Detroit, Michigan. The factory will serve as the battery pack manufacturing factory, research and development center and automobile battery operation headquarters of Samsung SDI USA.
In June+February, 5438, the second phase factory project of Samsung Huanxin Power Battery, a subsidiary of Samsung SDI, started in Xi 'an, with a total investment of 654.38+005 million yuan and a construction area of 654.38+06 million square meters. After the project is completed, five 60Ah lithium ion battery production lines will be formed.
In the same month, Samsung plans to invest US$ 2.4 billion (about RMB 654.38+065 billion) in the Tianjin factory to build a world-leading power battery production line and a MLCC (multilayer ceramic capacitor) factory for vehicles and other new projects.
In terms of technological progress, the energy density of Samsung SDI third-generation power battery is 550Wh/L, which has been mass-produced. According to the planning of Samsung SDI, it is estimated that the energy density of the third-generation battery products mass-produced in 20 19 will reach 630 wh/L. ..
At the same time, Samsung SDI is accelerating the research and development of the 4th and 5th generation batteries, with energy densities of 700Wh/L (equivalent to 270-280 Wh/kg) and 800Wh/L (equivalent to 300wh/kg) respectively. It is estimated that it will be mass-produced around 202 1~2022 and after 2023 respectively.
It can be seen that the leap-forward expansion of Samsung SDI is the epitome of the accelerated global expansion of Korean power batteries. At present, power battery giants, including LG Chem and SKI, are also accelerating the production capacity layout in Europe, America and China. Under the trend of new energy globalization and the time when subsidies will be withdrawn in 2020, Japanese power battery companies are bound to face global competition. How to meet the hand-to-hand combat of Japanese and Korean power battery giants has become a problem that Japanese companies have to face directly at present.
