Hangzhou, (abbreviation: Hang), ancient name Lin'an, Qiantang, is the capital of Zhejiang Province, a sub-provincial city, the core city of Hangzhou Metropolitan Area, megacity, one of the central cities of the Yangtze River Delta. Located in East China, downstream of the Qiantang River, along the southeastern coast, in the northern part of Zhejiang Province, and at the southern end of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, it is the core city of the Great Bay Area around Hangzhou Bay, the center city of the Shanghai-Jiaxing-Hangzhou G60 Science and Technology Innovation Corridor, and an internationally important e-commerce center. As of 2021, Hangzhou has 10 jurisdictions, one county-level city, two counties, and 191 townships, including 23 townships, 75 towns, 93 streets, 1,262 neighborhood committees, and 1,922 administrative villages; the city has a land area of 16,850 square kilometers, of which 8,289 square kilometers are urban areas.
