Shaw (November 19, 1907 - January 7, 2014), formerly known as Shao Renleng, was born in Shanghai, and was originally from Zhenhai, Ningbo, Zhejiang. A Chinese entertainment tycoon, philanthropist, producer, honorary chairman of Hong Kong Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB), and founder of Shaw Brothers Film Company.

He was the sixth of eight siblings in the Shaw family, and was known as "Shao Lao Liu" in the old Shanghai era, and "Uncle Liu" after he came to Hong Kong. Shaw founded Shaw Brothers Films in Hong Kong in 1958, which has produced more than 1,000 Chinese-language movies, and his Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB), commonly known as TVB, dominates Hong Kong's television industry.
