Language Issues
The first thing you will encounter when you migrate to a foreign country is language and communication issues. If you don't have a nanny to take care of you, and you live in a neighborhood surrounded by native Australians, you may encounter communication problems when you go out and go shopping. When faced with such problems, many elderly people feel isolated and their circle of life becomes smaller and smaller.
But there are also some elderly people who will actively make some changes, try to learn English, build up their own circle of friends in the local area, or learn to use WeChat, computers and other new ways to communicate with relatives and friends, share their interests and hobbies, etc. In this way not only do they make their own immigrant life more fulfilling, but also consolidate the relationship with their original friends and relatives.
Medical problems
Australia has a free health care system, but there are some differences between the local medical system and the domestic system, and some elderly people may not be used to the local medical system.
When you go to the hospital in Australia, you have to see a general practitioner first, and if you want to see a specialist, you have to ask the general practitioner to write a letter of recommendation and make an appointment before you can see a specialist. If an elderly person has a local medical card, they do not need to pay for a visit to a public hospital or a general practitioner, but they do need to pay for a visit to a specialist. However, there is a fee to see a specialist. After paying the fee, the patient receives about $60 from the government as a medical subsidy.
Family issues
Many older people in Australia adapt well to life in their home country and are happy if they have good relationships with their family members and live a full life. However, there are some elderly people who do not have a life of their own because they have to help their children to take care of them, or because they are not in good health, or because they do not communicate well with their children and other family members, so their lives are not very happy. If the children's partners are non-Chinese, it will be more difficult for the family members to communicate and understand each other, and more conflicts may arise.
In such a situation, parents need to gain their children's understanding and support on the one hand, and on the other hand, they need to rationalize their own time, do not put all the focus on the family, develop their own hobbies and interests, and take the initiative to go out and socialize with other people to build up their own circle of friends, so that their lives will gradually become more and more fulfilling.
