It is expected that in the near future, blood pressure can be measured through Apple Watch.
American IT media reported on 24th (local time) that Apple and Rockley Photonics only tested blood pressure through Apple Watch without pocket sphygmomanometer, and the test was very successful.
Pocket sphygmomanometer is an instrument for measuring pressure after the sphygmomanometer is worn on the arm.
In this experiment, Rockley Photonics upgraded the optical basic sensor and algorithm, and measured blood pressure with Apple Watch.
Hu Man, vice president in charge of engineering at Rockley Photonics, stressed: "The experimental results of successfully measuring blood pressure with wrist measuring equipment are quite encouraging, and great progress has been made in the goal of wearable devices providing multiple indicators."
Apple plans to add sleep apnea and blood oxygen index measurement functions to Apple Watch to help discover functions such as diabetes.
Previously, in order to measure blood pressure with Apple Watch, a pocket sphygmomanometer had to be used alone. Now, changes in blood pressure can be analyzed by an optical blood flow measurement (PPG) sensor, which measures blood flow through the body.
