Power supplies for medical equipment, like those for industry, telecommunications, and so on, are constantly evolving in terms of efficiency, density, and size.
However, medical-grade power supplies must also meet the safety requirements set forth in international standards such as IEC60601-1, which itself has evolved to produce regional versions such as UL60601-1 and EN60601-1. These regional versions require additional safety requirements such as creepage distances, electrical clearances, and leakage currents beyond the general safety standards.
