History of the National Museum

Naming

The predecessor of the National Museum of Chinese History was the "Preparatory Office of the National Museum of History", which was established on July 9, 1912.

On October 1, 1949, on the same day as the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was renamed the National Museum of History in Beijing, and in 1959 it was renamed the Chinese Museum of History.

The predecessor of the Chinese Revolutionary Museum was the Preparatory Office of the National Revolutionary Museum, which was established in March 1950.

In 1960, it was officially named the Chinese Revolutionary Museum.
