Qingdao Institute of Technology (QIT) is a full-time private general undergraduate school of higher education approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. The predecessor of the college is Qingdao Institute of Technology of Ocean University of China (OUC), which was founded in 2005. It is an independent college sponsored by OUC and invested by Qingdao Yilit Detai Science and Education Investment and Management Company Limited (Qingdao Yilit Detai Science and Education Investment and Management Company Limited), which is under the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.
Approved by the Ministry of Education, the school was transformed into an independent private general undergraduate college and renamed Qingdao College of Technology in 2011. As of January 2023, the school covers an area of 12,278,200 mu, with a building area of 281,000 square meters, the total value of teaching and research equipment is 97,377,700 yuan, and the library has 1,272,000 paper books and 160,000 e-books.
There are 8 secondary colleges, offering 41 undergraduate majors and 11 specialized majors; there are 723 full-time teachers and 15,894 full-time students, including 14,660 undergraduates and 1,234 specialists.
On June 1, 2005, the Ministry of Education of Shandong Province replied to the Department of Education of Shandong Province that Ocean University of China would try to set up the Qingdao College of Ocean University of China.
On April 7, 2011, the Ministry of Education issued the "Notice of the Ministry of Education on Agreeing to the Conversion of Qingdao College of Ocean University of China into Qingdao College of Technology", agreeing to the conversion of Qingdao College of Ocean University of China into Qingdao College of Technology, and at the same time withdrawing the establishment of Qingdao College of Ocean University of China.
