Most of these medical units, however, have not been renovated and their technological platforms have not been upgraded since they were established. Their age and lack of equipment have forced the staff of care to transfer those seriously ill patients to some better conditions, especially general hospitals, regional medical centers or regional university medical centers.
But one of the priorities of the National Health Development Program is to make medical care more accessible to the general public. In order to achieve this, it seems essential that primary care organizations have the services and equipment that will enable them to operate more independently and smoothly.
