The probability of HIV infection in acupuncture is related to the characteristics of needle (hollow or solid), the depth of acupuncture, whether there is visible blood in the needle, the infection stage of the patient and the genetic characteristics of the injured.
Inadvertently contaminated AIDS devices such as needles stab the skin, or mucous membranes directly contact body fluids containing HIV. The transmission probability of a single contact is 0.3% ~ 0.5%.
At present, taking antiretroviral drugs after occupational exposure can effectively reduce the risk of HIV infection.
