History of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics

In January 1951, a delegation of the Chinese government went to the Soviet Union to negotiate with the Soviet Union for assistance in the establishment of China's aviation industry, taking the development of China's aviation higher education and the hiring of Soviet experts as an important element. In March of the same year, the national institutions of higher education began a large-scale faculty adjustment, the original aviation engineering departments of domestic universities, made a preliminary adjustment: Tsinghua University, Peking University, Northwestern Polytechnic Institute and Xiamen University of the Department of Aviation merged to establish Tsinghua University School of Aeronautical Engineering; Yunnan University, the Department of Aviation into the Department of Aviation of Sichuan University; the former Central Industrial College of the Aviation Department and North China University, the Department of Aviation merged to establish the Beijing Institute of Technology (i.e. Beijing Institute of Technology) aviation In May 1952, according to the instruction of Premier Zhou Enlai to set up a specialized aviation institute of higher learning and the decision of the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of Education formulated a plan to adjust the faculties and departments of institutions of higher learning nationwide and made further adjustments. In June of the same year, the Central Ministry of Heavy Industry and the Central Ministry of Education decided, with the approval of the State Finance and Economy Commission and the consent of the Central Military Commission, to formally prepare for the establishment of the Beijing Aviation College.

On October 25, 1952, on the basis of Tsinghua University and Sichuan University, Beijing Institute of Technology (i.e., Beijing Institute of Technology), a group of high-level scholars such as Shen Yuan, Tu Shou'e, Wang Jun'kui, Lin Shi'erdinger, Lu Shijia, and Wu Ronglin, etc., were gathered to set up Beijing Aviation Academy, the first aeronautical and astronautical science and technology university of new China. Beijing Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the first university of aerospace science and technology in China.

In 1959, the central government's "Decision on the Designation of a Batch of Key Schools in Higher Education" designated 16 higher education institutions to start enrolling China's own graduate students on a trial basis, including Beihang.

In 1960, the departments of aeronautical nuclear power, aeronautical process and engineering physics were added, and in 1961 the department of automatic control of aircraft was established. By now, Beihang had established 10 departments and 35 majors.

In 1977, the unified enrollment of higher education institutions was resumed, and in 1978, the enrollment of graduate students was resumed.

In July 1978, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established, and in November the Department of Manufacturing Engineering was restored.

In 1984, Beihang was listed as one of the 15 colleges and universities to be constructed during the "Seventh Five-Year Plan" period, and in the same year, it was approved by the State Council as one of the first 22 universities in China to establish a graduate school. Research Institutions As of 2013, BUAA has one national laboratory, nine state-level key laboratories, four state-level engineering research centers, 42 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, three provincial and ministerial engineering centers, and three Zhongguancun open laboratories.
