Keywords : 3D printing; industrial design; application; impact
I. 3D Printing Technology
(a) Principle of 3D Printing Technology. 3D Printing Technology was firstly known as Rapid Prototyping or Rapid Prototyping Manufacturing Technology, which is the first technology in the Contemporary CAD/CAM technology, mechanical engineering, layered manufacturing technology, laser technology, computer numerical control technology, precision servo drive technology and new materials technology based on the integrated development of an advanced manufacturing technology. It is a computer three-dimensional digital model as a blueprint, the software will be decomposed into a number of layers of plane slices, and then by the CNC molding system using laser beams, hot melt nozzles, etc. will be adhesive material layer by layer stacking bonding, and ultimately superimposed on the molding, manufacturing products.
(ii) common sub-categories of 3D printing technology and the materials that can be used. Common 3D printing technology can be divided into the following categories according to the different molding techniques:
(C) The advantages of 3D printing. 3D printing technology is the leading technology for the development of mass production forms to small batch and personalized production forms, and its outstanding advantage lies in the production of complex structure and appearance of the items without increasing the cost of diversification without increasing the cost of the items, and lies in the lack of need for assembly and zero time delivery, The outstanding advantages are no assembly, zero time delivery, unlimited design space, zero skill manufacturing, no space occupation, portability, reduction of waste by-products, unlimited combination of materials, and precise physical reproduction.
The application of 3D printing in industrial design
(a) Conceptual modeling, functional prototyping. In the process of industrial design, the need to repeatedly produce different roles and types of parts, models, the traditional method has a long production cycle, high labor intensity, poor accuracy, high cost and many other shortcomings, and the use of 3D printing technology can be fast, easy and accurate to get the required parts, models.
(ii) The production of tools required in the industrial design process. Industrial design is a creative activity, different products, different designers in the design process need to use a variety of equipment and tools to assist, most of these tools are designers according to the need to make their own. At this point, can be completed through the 3D printer, rather than spending a lot of time, energy through a variety of processing methods to produce. 3D printing equipment in the tool production can not only shorten the time, reduce costs, but also construct a more precise structure, lighter quality, more ergonomic products, greatly improving the efficiency of the design.
(C) small batch product production. With the development of 3D printing technology, the cost of printing and printing time to further reduce the material that can be printed, the way to enrich the production of small quantities of products with traditional manufacturing processes, compared with the production process is short, less time, low cost and other huge advantages, and is not subject to the time, space, machine tools, molds and molds, as long as there is a need to pause at any time to produce the design of the design modification, to lift the traditional manufacturing technology, the cost of production, and to improve the quality of the product, to improve the quality of the product. The traditional manufacturing technology, cost, schedule and other constraints, so that the design of the product is not only fast and flexible to produce.
The impact of 3D printing on industrial design. Impact
(a) the liberation of bondage, change the design concept. Traditional design modeling by the production of products, assembly and other process constraints, making the designer's creativity, imagination is bound. With the development and maturity of 3D printing technology, the structure and appearance of even more complex products can be printed out by 3D printers, and all in one. In this way, designers can focus their energy on product form, appearance creativity and functional innovation, improvement, so that the product modeling design diversification, structural design integration, the use of humanized trend gradually appeared, in its technology, economy, aesthetics, environment, human-machine and other attributes of factors, human-machine attributes and aesthetics attributes of factors accounted for by the proportion of factors have been improved. Traditional industrial design is based on the traditional mass production method, which requires that the design is based on a model, and even the so-called personalized design only reduces the scope of model generation. This means that the user's psychological, physiological and use of time, environment and other differences in the design process is difficult to reflect. Such as mouse design is this typical design: the traditional design mode is to let the user's hand size, use of habits, personality needs to adapt to a limited number of specifications, models, and 3D printing technology can be based on the user's hand shape, habits, personality needs, etc., design, production and its exact match of the product. 3D printing technology to make the personalized design and production of the product has become a possibility, the use of 3D printing technology The 3D printing technology can realize the tailor-made products, truly realize the people-oriented.
(ii) The impact of 3D printing technology on the industrial design process and cost. In the design process, smooth and efficient design communication is an important guarantee for the success of industrial design development. Among them, various types of models are one of the important means of communication. Handmade models in terms of precision, texture, touch and other aspects of the concept of the design of the concept are expected to have a large deviation, and 3D printing can overcome these shortcomings, so that each member of the design team and the user are able to intuitively see and touch these conceptual models, compare the structure, shape and function of the differences between them and the advantages and disadvantages. In addition, the model of the industrial design process if handmade will take a long time, is to shorten the time to market the biggest obstacle to the product, the use of 3D printing can greatly shorten the conceptual model and the product prototype production time, from the previous days or even weeks to a few hours. In recent years, with the development trend of product complexity and personalization, the cost of model processing and manufacturing in the design process is very high, complex models and even require the production of special molds and processing technology to ensure the accuracy of the model and the real effect, and 3D printing technology can be achieved at any time, any place to make the model, significantly reducing the design cost.
(C) 3D printing technology on the impact of the design industry. The traditional industrial design model is constrained by the inherent subtractive production methods, led by professional designers. But with the increasing maturity of 3D printing technology, independent designers will be less and less dependent on the traditional processing industry. For those consumers with a strong sense of innovation, with a certain degree of design, R & D capabilities are likely to become designers and producers. With the social manufacturing brought about by 3D printing technology, independent designers and brands will also rise.
Fourth, the problems faced by 3D printing in industrial design
3D printing by designers, design software, equipment, materials and other **** with the role of each other. In the field of industrial design, 3D printing technology has liberated the design constraints and inspired designers to create, but the design software used for 3D printing technology, model output format and other aspects still need to be further developed and improved. At present, 3D printing technology can be perfectly combined with the design has been confirmed in many products, and has been widely recognized, but how to make it play its due role in the production of more products is still a problem that needs to be constantly explored. At the same time, 3D printing technology itself has inherent shortcomings, such as: the print size by the technology and printer limitations, product printing time is too long and no cost advantage in mass production, etc., these reasons so that 3D printing still can not replace the traditional manufacturing process. Conclusion: 3D printing technology has gained significant development and application in the field of industrial design. In the field of industrial design, 3D printing technology can not only meet the current requirements of people for personalized and customized products, but also realize the manufacture of complex products in structure and appearance, improve the design and manufacturing precision, greatly shorten the design cycle, reduce the design cost, inspire designers to create, and bring a new vitality to the product design, and at the same time give birth to a large number of independent designers and design brands, with a good Development prospects. At the same time, 3D printing technology also has some technical and promotional shortcomings and shortcomings, but with the development of 3D printing technology, maturity and designers of the unremitting efforts, will be in the field of industrial design to get more and more widely used.
