What is Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation Neurotherapy?

The treatment of applying low-frequency pulsed electric current to a certain part of the body, causing excitation of the peripheral nerve thick fibers, in order to reduce or eliminate pain is called Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation of Nerve Therapy (i.e., TENS therapy). The instrument of this treatment is miniaturized, easy to carry and home treatment.

Treatment: the main technical parameters of transcutaneous electrical stimulation neural therapy are:

Pulse waveform: unidirectional or bidirectional asymmetric square wave.

Pulse frequency: 50 to 100 Hz, low limit 0.5 to 25 Hz, high limit 100 to 500 Hz.

Pulse width: 2 to 50 microseconds, high limit 100 to 500 microseconds, less than 50 microseconds easy to excite the nerve thick fiber.

Current intensity: the peak current should be below 150 milliamps, but the general power is 30 to 60 milliamps, should not be too small.

The patient exposes the treatment area and identifies pressure points, acupuncture points or movement points. Apply conductive adhesive on the front side of the electrode, and fix the electrode to the treatment site with a fixation tape or self-adhesive. A pair or two pairs of electrodes can be placed on both sides of the pain area, or on the four diagonal points of the pain area to form a cross placement. Select the frequency and wave width according to the condition, analgesia should be used 50 ~ 100 Hz, wave width <50 microseconds, sometimes in order to strengthen the analgesic effect, can also choose the frequency of 3 ~ 10 Hz magnetic strong current stimulation. Adjust the current output, generally use the sensory threshold dose, to the extent that there is obvious tremor and paresthesia.

Each treatment 20 to 120 minutes, 1 to 2 times a day, 8 to 12 times for a course of treatment, generally to achieve the best analgesic effect shall prevail.

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation therapy is suitable for headache, migraine, dental pain, neck pain (such as pillow), lumbago, neuralgia (occipital neuralgia, trigeminal neuralgia, intercostal neuralgia, sciatica), muscular pain, joint pain, herpes zoster pain, labor pain, postoperative pain, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, tendonitis, bursitis, arthritis, cervical spondylosis, lumbar strain, residual limb pain, cancer pain and so on. Contraindications are the same as electrical bodywork therapy.
