Legal basis: "Regulations on Marriage Registration" Article 5: Mainland residents applying for marriage registration shall produce the following documents and certificates:
(a) their hukou books and ID cards
(b) a signed statement that they have no spouses and that they are not related to the other party by blood relatives in the direct line or by blood relatives within three generations.
Hong Kong residents, Macao residents and Taiwan residents applying for marriage registration shall produce the following documents and certificates:
(a) their valid travel permits and identity cards
(b) a statement notarized by a notary public in their place of residence that they have no spouses and are not related to the other party by blood relatives in the direct line or by blood relatives within three generations.
