What's the difference between the Health Bureau and the Food and Drug Administration?

The Health Bureau and the Food and Drug Administration are both medical and health supervision organs in China, but they are different in their work functions. Their differences are as follows:

1. Health bureau is the competent department of local hospitals at all levels, in charge of food hygiene, the implementation of the law on medical practitioners, the handling of medical accidents and so on. The Food and Drug Administration supervises and manages the food safety of drugs, medical devices, cosmetics, health food and catering.

2. The supervision places are different. The Health Bureau is responsible for the supervision and management of infectious disease prevention, public health, drinking water health, school health, occupational health and other related public health. The food and drug administration does not manage public health, but manages enterprises or manufacturing and sales places that produce drugs and cosmetics.

3. The job responsibilities are different. The Health Bureau is responsible for the implementation of licensing, supervision and law enforcement for the establishment of local medical and health institutions at all levels, the establishment of medical services, the application of new medical technologies, the configuration of large-scale medical equipment, medical and health practitioners and special technologies for maternal and child health care. The Food and Drug Administration should strengthen the construction and comprehensive coordination of food safety system, improve the drug standard system and quality management norms, optimize the drug registration and related administrative licensing management processes, improve the food and drug risk early warning mechanism and the local supervision and inspection mechanism, and build a mechanism to prevent regional and systematic food and drug safety risks.
