“Save people first ..." This is an emergency that occurred in Shanghai Haihua Hospital recently. A poor migrant woman from other places suffered a sudden acute cerebral infarction and was sent to the hospital. Faced with the financial difficulties of the patient and her family, Shanghai Haihua Hospital did not hesitate at all and immediately activated the life "green channel" to provide treatment.

01 On the verge of death, pulling back from the brink

The incident happened at 15:24 pm on December 29, 2020. The emergency department of Shanghai Haihua Hospital was working as usual, with 120 ambulances The sound of a roar roared from a distance, and a 53-year-old female patient, Ms. Zhao, was brought in. The emergency department immediately entered an emergency state.

The patient was already in a deep coma when he was carried down by the emergency personnel. The pupils on both sides were equal in size and round about 2 mm, and his light reflex was slow. The attending doctor first ruled out the possibility of COVID-19 in the patient according to the procedure, and then invited Tang Xianjun, director of the Emergency Medicine Department (EICU), for emergency consultation. After completing relevant examinations such as head CT, head MRI, ultrasound, and blood, he diagnosed "acute cerebral infarction, cerebral infarction, and brain infarction". Arterial occlusion, cerebral infarction, grade 3 hypertension, pulmonary infection, hypoalbuminemia, hypokalemia, and anemia." After learning that the patient's family was in particular difficulty, a green channel was immediately opened to give him priority for hospitalization and admission to the EICU. A critical illness notice was issued.

Our hospital learned that the patient went to Shanghai from a poor county in Sichuan to work alone to support his children. The wages of his family members were also very meager, making life extremely difficult. After learning about the patient's "special" situation, the hospital's president, Luo Ming, instructed the medical department and clinical departments to spare no effort to treat the patient at all costs.

After oxygen inhalation, ECG monitoring, right subclavian deep vein catheterization under local anesthesia and many other symptomatic treatments, the patient woke up on the afternoon of the 30th and his consciousness gradually improved, but his vital signs were still poor. Stable, follow-up treatment continues in EICU.

During this period, the patient's condition suddenly deteriorated. Director Tang Xianjun of the EICU immediately invited directors of other disciplines of our hospital's MDT (Multidisciplinary Collaborative Diagnosis and Treatment) team for emergency consultation. The doctors rushed to the scene as soon as possible and carefully considered the condition. Develop new symptomatic treatment plans in a timely manner.

After 77 days of careful treatment and care, the patient went from deep coma to clear consciousness, from being unable to respond to being able to talk and eat, and entered a gradually improving state. Our hospital's EICU has truly helped the patient in his recovery. On the verge of death, "step back from the cliff".

At present, the patient's condition has improved significantly and meets the discharge indications. He was discharged from the hospital on March 16 for home rehabilitation treatment and is reviewed regularly.

Within 77 days, they tried their best to raise a hospitalization deposit of 9,000 yuan. Faced with more than 60,000 yuan in medical expenses, they felt helpless, but the hospital did not give up treatment. When discharged from the hospital, the patient's family members spoke highly of the hospital leaders and all EICU medical staff and shed tears of emotion. He said that this is a hospital that truly saves lives and heals the wounded. This is the hospital that makes people feel most at ease!
