Inflammation of the pterygoid sinus

It is a type of sinusitis.

Acute sinusitis is an acute purulent inflammation of the sinuses. The maxillary sinuses are the most prevalent, the sieve and frontal sinuses the next most prevalent, and the pterygoid sinuses the least prevalent.

Causes:

1, by the cold and flu secondary, the nasal cavity is usually a lot of bacteria, but not onset. Only when the body fatigue, cold, resistance to decline, the germs will take advantage of the opportunity to multiply, so that the mucosa of the nasal cavity acute inflammation. Sinus mucosa and nasal mucosa are connected to each other. Thus, acute rhinitis extends. It will cause sinusitis.

2, neighboring foci of infection spread. Such as the occurrence of tooth root abscess, can penetrate the maxillary sinus floor wall, causing maxillary sinusitis, known as "odontogenic maxillary sinusitis". Tonsillitis and pharyngeal lymphatic tissue chronic inflammation, sometimes can also cause sinusitis.

3, direct factors. Such as swimming after sewage directly through the nasal cavity into the sinuses. Or trauma so that bacteria directly invade the infection and inflammation.

4, systemic factors. Such as fatigue, malnutrition, tobacco and alcohol, especially with chronic diseases such as diabetes, tuberculosis, chronic nephritis and other patients, poor systemic resistance, easy to get sinusitis. Symptoms vary in severity and performance. Such as fear of cold and fever, general malaise, loss of spirit, loss of appetite and so on. Children have more severe symptoms, higher fever, convulsions, vomiting, coughing and other symptoms. There is nasal congestion, a lot of pus or headache.

It should be noted that a single sinusitis is relatively rare, sometimes with other sinuses *** with the onset of sinusitis or paranasal sinusitis, are called sinusitis, in order to have a deeper understanding of the characteristics of the various types of sinusitis, are listed (you can also click to see the other types of sinusitis: maxillary sinusitis, sieve sinusitis, frontal sinusitis)

Pterocephaly sinus (sphenoidal sinus) is located in the body of the butterfly, left and right, each with a sinus. The sphenoidal sinus is located in the body of the sphenoid bone, one on each side, and each opens into the sphenoidal fossa through a hole in its anterior wall.

Acute sphenoiditis rarely develops alone. Headache often occurs at the top of the head, in the posterior occipital region, and may be reflected to the neck and behind the eyes.

Chronic sphenoiditis (chronic sphenoiditis) occurs alone is rare, often sieve sinusitis occurs at the same time, if the chronic purulent sinusitis has spread to the pterygoid sinus, the formation of total sinusitis. Its clinical manifestations are similar to those of chronic sieve sinusitis and maxillary sinusitis, and the presence of pterygoid sinusitis can be confirmed by X-ray radiography. After mastering the characteristics of each sinusitis, can be identified with chronic rhinitis, usually both exist at the same time.

Chronic:

1General treatment includes furosemide drops, antimicrobials, and maxillary sinus puncture and irrigation.

2. If general treatment is not effective. Detailed nasal endoscopic nasal examination or CT examination of the sinuses should be carried out, mainly to understand whether there are lesions affecting the drainage of the sinuses. CT radiograph of the left side shows inflammation of the maxillary sinuses bilaterally with fluid level.

3, surgical treatment, including the removal of the cause of the surgery, (such as high septal deviation nasal septum correction; hypertrophy or polypoid changes in the middle turbinate, the feasibility of partial resection of the middle turbinate, if there is a nasal polyp, then nasal polyp removal surgery), maxillary sinus radical surgery.

4, the more popular surgical methods for functional nasal endoscopic surgery. This method of surgical damage is small, in line with the normal physiological anatomy, the effect is better. If possible, try to perform this surgery.

Acute: The treatment of acute frontal sinusitis is mainly antibiotic and nasal drip medication.
