Qinhuangdao City is an ancient city with a long history. During the Shang and Zhou dynasties, it was the central area of ??the Guzhu Kingdom. During the Spring and Autumn Period, the Jin Dynasty destroyed Feizi, and the Feizi fled to the Yan State. During the Warring States Period, this place belonged to Liaoxi County. During the Qin and Han Dynasties, this place was a must-have for pilgrims and military strategists on their eastern tours. Qin Shihuang visited Jieshi for the fourth time and carved the Jieshi Gate. He also sent Yan people such as Lu Sheng, Han Zhong, Hou Gong, Shi Sheng and other alchemists into the sea to seek immortality and the elixir of immortality. Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty inspected the sea eastward and built Hanwu Tower on Jieshi. He used troops to attack the Weiyue Dynasty of North Korea here and used Jinshanzui of Beidaihe River as a grain storage city. Cao Cao led his troops to the northern expedition to Wuhuan, passing by the coast of the Bohai Sea, looking at the Jieshi, and wrote the poem "Guan Cang Hai". During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, this place was a strategic location to resist the Turks and Khitans outside the Pass. Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty sent Shi Siming to control the Pingzhou prefect and the Lulong military envoy. Kublai Khan of the Yuan Dynasty set up Pingluan Road in Zhongshu Province here, and later changed it to Yongping Mansion. The Ming Dynasty once established a Salt Administration here. After Li Zicheng overthrew the Ming Dynasty, he led more than 40,000 troops to Shanhaiguan to conquer Wu Sangui. Wu Sangui led 150,000 Qing troops to fight against Li Zicheng. This was the "Battle of Shihe" that changed the destiny of Chinese history. After three days of hard fighting, the peasant army was finally outnumbered. After the defeat, he retreated to Lulong County (Yongping Prefecture) within the territory, reorganized his army and fought again. He was defeated and Li Zicheng fled back to the capital. During the reign of the Qing Dynasty, Qinyu County was established in Shanhaiguan. In 1898, the Qing government officially opened Beidaihe as a "summer resort for people from all over the world."
