Anhui Medical University is a key university in Anhui province, selected for the basic capacity building project for colleges and universities in the central and western parts of the country, and has become one of the first batch of colleges and universities of Anhui province under the Anhui Province higher education revitalization plan, as well as a pilot university under the Ministry of Education's "Excellence in Physician Education and Cultivation Program".
The university was founded in May 1926 as the private Southeast Medical College in Shanghai, and at the end of 1949, in response to the call of the East China Bureau of the Central Government of the People's Republic of China to "face the countryside and go to the mainland", the university was relocated to Anhui Province and became the first medical college in Anhui Province, and was renamed Anhui Medical College in 1952, and was renamed Anhui Medical University in June 1996 with the approval of the State Education Commission.

History
Anhui Medical University's predecessor was the Southeast Medical University founded by Guo Qiyuan, Tang Li Zhou and others on the site of the former Yadong Medical University (Shanghai Shanghai Hujun Camp) in May 15, Republic of China.
