The Fujian Grand Theater is by far the largest cultural infrastructure project in Fujian Province. Construction began in 2005 and was completed in June 2007.

The Grand Theater has a 1,352-seat main theater and a 491-seat multi-functional theater, with 838 seats on the first floor of the main theater's auditorium, 237 seats on the second floor and 277 seats on the third floor.
The first floor of the west side of the auditorium is a VIP lounge and rest room, and the east side is an office room and rest room. The back stage is divided into five floors, the first basement level for the actors' lounge, large dressing room; one level for the back stage mechanical equipment platform; the second level for the large dressing room, office, infirmary; the third and fourth floors for the air-conditioning plant room, the fifth floor for the rehearsal hall and locker rooms and so on. The main theater will install nine elevators, including two sightseeing elevators on both sides of the auditorium.
