Can I drink coke when I lose weight?

Recently, a cola brand company launched a cola. The company said that adding water-soluble dietary fiber to reduce fat can inhibit the body's absorption of fat. So many people call this kind of coke "diet coke". So, is it reliable to lose weight with cola?

According to Hainan Daily, the dietary fiber added to the so-called "Diet Coke" is a kind of water-soluble dietary fiber from corn starch, named Fibersol-2, 50% of which cannot be digested by human body, so it is called indigestible maltodextrin, also known as resistant dextrin.

As early as 1990, resistant dextrin has been certified by GRAS in the United States. According to the report of Science and Technology Daily, this substance has passed the certification of Japanese specific health food systems 1992, 1994, 1998 for regulating intestines, delaying postprandial blood sugar rise and delaying postprandial triglyceride rise, and was approved as a common food by the Ministry of Health of China on 20 1998.

Sun Jing, deputy chief physician of the Department of Gastroenterology, Ruijin Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, said in an interview with Nanjing Daily that the so-called water-soluble dietary fiber means that each bottle of diet coke contains 5 grams of resistant dextrin. Resistant dextrin is a low-calorie glucan made from starch, which has been widely used in food processing industry in recent years. But in the official website of Diet Coke, there is nothing to show that this drink can lose weight, only that it can inhibit the body's absorption of fat.

Qiu Chaoping, a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine in the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, said in an interview with Nanjing Daily that the 5g dietary fiber contained in "slimming cola" is far from enough to change the essence of cola. Dietary fiber is called the seventh nutrient of human body, and many dietary substitutes or drinks will add such substances. However, from the perspective of weight loss, 5g dietary fiber can only supplement the human body. "It is basically impossible to lose weight with it." (Jess Zhang)
