What is health?

Not everyone can answer this question correctly. For a long time, people used to understand health as the concept that the body is not sick or weak, that is, "health is disease-free". Although this understanding has some truth, it seems to be one-sided. Nowadays, people's understanding of health has become more comprehensive and complete. The World Health Organization (WHO) put forward in 1948: "Health is not just the absence of disease or weakness, but a complete state of physical, psychological and social adaptation." 1978, the World Health Organization reaffirmed this definition in the Almaty Declaration, and pointed out that "reaching the highest possible health level is the most important social goal in the world, and its realization requires the coordinated action of the health sector and the social sector". In 1990, the World Health Organization has made a new definition of health:

That is, "health means not only the absence of disease, but also physical health, mental health, good social adaptability and moral health".

Specifically, health includes the following aspects.

1. Good health. Physical health includes two aspects: first, the main organs are disease-free, the body shape develops well and evenly, the physiological functions of various human systems are good, and there is strong physical activity and labor ability, which is the most basic requirement of health; Second, it has strong disease resistance, can adapt to environmental changes and various physiological stimuli, and resist pathogenic factors. This resistance to disease can be gained through physical exercise.

2. Mental health. Due to the influence of social and cultural background, the standard of mental health is vague. However, mental health plays a leading role in people's code of conduct. In the face of colorful life, only mentally healthy people can adapt to various environments and deal with various things. Generally speaking, mental health is a good mental state, and it is in this state. People not only have a sense of security and a good self-state, but also can perfectly integrate into society and adapt to the external environment in the form of social recognition. Mentally healthy people can adapt to the development environment and have perfect personality characteristics. Its cognition, emotional reaction and will behavior are in a positive state, and it can maintain normal control ability. In life practice, we can know ourselves correctly, control ourselves consciously and treat external influences correctly, thus maintaining psychological balance and coordination. In real life, mental health and physical health are interrelated and interactive, and mental health affects people's physical health all the time. If a person is withdrawn and psychologically depressed for a long time, it will affect the secretion of hormones in the body, make people's resistance decline, and diseases will take advantage of it. If a healthy person always suspects that he has any disease, he will be depressed all day and may eventually lead to disease.

3. Social adaptation is good. Good social adaptation means being able to keep good contact with the natural environment and social environment, and don't let yourself be closed and depressed for a long time. Thoughts, feelings, behaviors, etc. It can meet the requirements of social environment and adapt to various changes in social life. Can have good adaptability to the surrounding environment, have certain interpersonal skills, can effectively cope with the pressure in daily life and work, and can work, study and live normally.

4. Moral health. Moral health is a kind of "essential strength" of human beings, which consists of two parts: ideology and morality and self-improvement of personality. Its contents include: not meeting one's own needs at the expense of others, being able to distinguish between true and false, good and evil, beauty and ugliness, honor and disgrace, and being able to restrain oneself and dominate one's thoughts and behaviors according to the norms of social behavior. People who violate social moral standards will inevitably have negative emotions such as nervousness, fear and guilt, which will further damage their health.
