Behring is a truly caring philanthropist. When developing the Black Hawk community in California in the 1970s, Bellin established the Museum of Science, Culture and Art in cooperation with the University of California, Berkeley. In the 1990s, he established the Berliner Education School in Berkeley University, which specially trained excellent primary school teachers and qualified them to be primary school principals in central and backward areas.
From 65438 to 0988, after purchasing the Seattle Seahawks football team, Bellin established the Seattle Seahawks Charity Foundation, which made great contributions to education and children's charity. Bellin once donated $6,543.80 billion to the Smithsonian Institution, creating the largest donation of the institution over the years. From 65438 to 0998, the Smithsonian Institution awarded Bellin the famous james smithso Prize in recognition of his generosity.
Set up a foundation
In 2000, Behring established the World Wheelchair Foundation, which is dedicated to improving the lives of the disadvantaged groups around the world, and opened a new chapter for his charity. Behring has met countless disabled people all over the world. They can't walk and can't afford wheelchairs. Out of concern for these disabled people, he decided to set up the World Wheelchair Foundation to give wheelchairs to every man, woman and child who needs wheelchairs.
With the joint efforts of Bellin and the Foundation, this five-year milestone was achieved-654.38+0.5 billion USD was raised from companies, foundations and individuals, and 654.38+0.00 million wheelchairs were distributed around the world. It is estimated that at least 654.38 billion disabled people in the world need wheelchairs, but they can't afford them.
Up to now, the World Wheelchair Foundation has sent 203 wheelchairs to more than 100 countries around the world, and most of these wheelchairs were handed out to the disabled by Behring himself. The members of the International Advisory Board of the World Wheelchair Foundation include former South African President nelson mandela, former French President Valerie guiscard de Einstein and former Philippine President Fidel Valdez Ramos. The Committee was co-chaired by King Juan Carlos of Spain and Queen Sofia.
By 20 12, the World Wheelchair Foundation founded by Belin has donated more than 900,000 wheelchairs to disabled people in more than 50 countries around the world, of which nearly 350,000 wheelchairs have been donated to China, accounting for more than one third of the total donations worldwide. By the end of 20 12, the total value of wheelchairs donated by the Foundation to the disabled in Chongqing exceeded 120,000 yuan.
In the past few years, Belin has often visited China. He personally felt that not only individuals should make more efforts to change the lives of disabled people in China, but also China has great potential to become one of the world's economic powers. Mr. Behring listed China as a key project of the Foundation, hoping to establish long-term cooperative relations with China government and business leaders.
Create a global health and education foundation
Following the great success of the World Wheelchair Foundation, due to the global water shortage? Concerned about the lack of disease prevention and health promotion activities, Bellin founded the Global Health and Education Foundation in the United States in 2005, aiming at comprehensively and systematically dealing with a wider range of health and education issues.
Bellin was accepted as a member of American Achievement Association on 1989, 1992 was recorded in California Hall of Fame, and 1994 was recorded in the Hall of Fame of Gulf Sports Center.
