Generally speaking, the replacement cycle of gearbox oil is the same as that of vehicle maintenance cycle, which is based on mileage or service time. If these two indicators are clearly given in the vehicle manual, the first one shall prevail.
If there is no such indicator in the vehicle manual or the oil change time is not clearly marked, it is generally replaced every 50,000-80,000 kilometers.
Correct replacement of transmission oil
Generally, when replacing the automatic transmission oil, most of the screws at the bottom of the automatic transmission oil are removed to leak the old oil and add new oil, but only about 30% of the new oil can be replaced, and 70% of the old oil remains in the transmission. If the oil pan is disassembled for oil change, the oil change rate can reach 70%, which can actually ensure the health of the gearbox.
But at present, the better way to change oil is dynamic oil change, using special gearbox cleaning equipment. In the process of gearbox operation, before adding new gearbox oil, the old oil is fully recycled and discharged, so that the oil change rate is as high as 90%.
The friction coefficients of automatic gearboxes of GM, Toyota and Ford brands are different, so ATF oils are different and cannot be mixed. Mixing ATF will damage the friction plate of the gearbox, and the clutch and brake will slip, which will seriously damage the friction plate.
