Lianyungang was named after the third year of Jiaqing in Qing Dynasty. After the formation of Banpu and Bianjiapu, they are located near Xinpu River, hence the name Xinpu. Xinpu River is an important river in Lianyungang area, which flows through this area and flows into Bohai Sea. Lianyungang is called Xinpu because its geographical location is closely related to the existence of Xinpu River.
