What is wisdom tooth?

According to medical knowledge, wisdom teeth are the teeth that people begin to grow in adulthood. The average child will grow 28 teeth after deciduous teeth fall off, and adults will grow 4 teeth, that is 32, which means you have grown up! Medical wisdom teeth are also called the third molar, commonly known as wisdom teeth, vertical teeth and full-mouth teeth (Sichuan dialect). The eighth tooth from the front is the last permanent tooth among 32 human permanent teeth, which is located at the last side of the upper, lower, left and right dental arches. Because wisdom teeth are mostly around 16 ~ 24 years old when they grow up, people's wisdom is also referred to as wisdom teeth when they grow up. In the process of human evolution, as the food becomes more and more refined, the burden on the jaw bone decreases accordingly, which leads to the continuous reduction of the bone mass of the jaw bone, but the size of the teeth does not decrease with it, which eventually leads to the lack of teeth eruption. The third molar that finally erupts is the most likely to form pericoronitis of wisdom teeth, which is the main reason for the abnormal eruption position of wisdom teeth. The origin of wisdom teeth refers to the four third molars on the innermost alveolar bone in human mouth, one on the top, one on the bottom, one on the left and one on the right. Because these four third molars just began to erupt around the age of 20, at this time, people's physical and psychological development is close to maturity, so they are regarded as a symbol of "wisdom arrival", so they are called "wisdom teeth"-wisdom teeth. In fact, from the perspective of modern medicine, wisdom teeth are the necessity of human evolution. As we all know, it is a universal law in the theory of biological evolution to "use in the process and abandon in the process". Wisdom teeth are an excellent example. In the late adolescence, the jawbone develops to the size of an adult. Because people's diet is becoming more and more exquisite and human evolution leads to insufficient mandibular length, there is not enough room for wisdom teeth to erupt. Wisdom teeth will be impacted in the mandible and grow in other directions. Only part of the crown may be exposed under the gum or completely buried in the mandible. The root may deform or grow to the maxillary sinus or mandibular nerve, which is very dangerous. Or during the development of wisdom teeth in the bone, the position changes, such as the teeth leaning forward, horizontal or even inverted, which eventually leads to partial or full eruption of wisdom teeth. Diseases caused by wisdom teeth: Because of the special position of wisdom teeth growth, it brings many problems to its cleaning and treatment. Common diseases include dental caries, periodontitis and pulpitis. 1. Pericoronitis of wisdom teeth refers to the inflammation of the tissues around the crown of the adult third molar during eruption or impaction. (1) Reason: Many people have no wisdom teeth, and a large number of patients with wisdom teeth have incomplete eruption or are located in the mandible. Incomplete or embedded wisdom teeth can grow in all directions, among which it is common to tilt forward. The crown rests on the back of the second molar, and the back half of wisdom teeth is covered by oral mucosa, thus forming a blind pocket between the crown surface and oral mucosa. This kind of blind bag has a certain depth, and the wisdom teeth are located at the back of the mouth, which is easy to hide food residues, bacteria and so on. When the human body's resistance drops, such as cold, fatigue or some unpleasant things in life, the bacteria in the blind bag will rob the fish in troubled waters and eventually lead to gingivitis (pericoronitis of wisdom teeth). (2) Clinical manifestations: At first, there will be swelling, pain and dullness around wisdom teeth. Many people don't know much about the disease, thinking that they are getting angry and taking some anti-inflammatory drugs themselves. Some oral anti-inflammatory drugs with mild symptoms can be controlled. If the inflammation continues to develop, it will invade the adjacent masticatory muscles, resulting in difficulty in opening the mouth and swelling of the face. If not treated in time, there will be some systemic symptoms such as headache, fever and fatigue. At this time, the blood test will find that the white blood cells are elevated. During pericoronitis of wisdom teeth, the mucosa around wisdom teeth will be red, swollen and eroded, and there will be a lot of food residues in some areas. Late inflammation gradually forms abscess, and some can spread along the mandible. Some patients were not treated in time because of economic reasons or lack of understanding of the disease. An abscess may puncture the cheek and form a fistula in the face, or the second molar may be decayed because the tooth is pushed onto the front teeth. The most serious infection is maxillofacial space, which mainly shows facial swelling, limited mouth opening, fever and pain. (3) Treatment, local treatment, systemic treatment and surgical treatment. If wisdom teeth grow out completely or are completely embedded in the bone without any symptoms, there is no need to deal with them; If the wisdom teeth do not erupt completely, leading to caries of the front second molar or repeated inflammation of the wisdom teeth, it is necessary to trouble the dentist to pull them out.
