Is eva material toxic?

Hello, EVA material itself is nontoxic. But EVA mats and slippers are poisonous.

Generally, the content of vinyl acetate (VA) is 5%-40%. Compared with polyethylene (PE), EVA is widely used in foam shoes, functional shed films, packaging molds, hot melt adhesives, wires and cables, toys and other fields because of the introduction of vinyl acetate monomer in the molecular chain, which reduces the high crystallinity and improves the toughness, impact resistance, filler compatibility and heat sealing performance.

Foamed products need to be foamed with EVA, and substances contained in foaming agent and substances in foaming agent will form formamide. Formamide is a low toxic compound, which can be absorbed into the body through respiratory tract, digestive tract, skin and mucosa, and its metabolic rate is relatively low. It is irritating and has certain reproductive toxicity. Belgium and the European Union have laws prohibiting the sale of floor mats containing formamide. Although there is no relevant standard in China, we should also pay attention to the use of EVA foam products. EVA foam products usually include foam slippers, sandals, building materials, various industrial parts, women's soles, hot melt adhesives and so on.
