The prospect of detoxification
A few years ago, there was a popular saying among drug addicts: "Take drugs once, give up drugs for ten years, and want to poison for a lifetime." In fact, drugs are harmful because they are highly addictive. Up to now, the relapse rate of drug addicts is extremely high, which is a difficult problem that puzzles the world. Generally speaking, the relapse rate is as high as 98% within half a year, and the relapse rate of compulsory detoxification is 90%. There are four reasons: (1) drug addicts are not determined enough and the problem of psychological dependence has not been solved; (2) I don't want to endure the extended symptoms of insomnia, chronic pain, anxiety and bad mood after detoxification; (3) being tempted by the environment, it is easy to get drugs; (4) can't tolerate setbacks in life. From here, we can fully appreciate the arduousness and arduousness of drug rehabilitation.
But drugs are not completely inexorable. The treatment of drug addicts has always been called detoxification treatment. This term is easy to give people an illusion. It seems that addiction is caused by poisoning people. Once the toxin is removed, the treatment is complete. It's not that simple. Taking the most serious heroin in China as an example, the long-term inhalation of opium will change and affect many physiological functions of the central nervous system. Once drug abuse is interrupted or reduced, it is difficult to adjust the above neurophysiological functions. There will be mental or physical symptoms such as yawning, tears, dilated pupils, general weakness, extreme anxiety, impulsiveness and self-injury. After drug addicts become addicted, they will have this strong psychological dependence and desire for drug addiction.
Drug abstinence, in essence, is only a drug to treat withdrawal symptoms, which makes the withdrawal reaction lighter and reduces accidents. At present, there is no drug in the world that can not only relieve withdrawal symptoms, but also cut off addiction from psychological craving, which is why abstainers need to combine treatment with education. It takes about 3 years for the neurophysiological injury to recover basically. Therefore, at present, abstinence for three years is the standard to measure the success of a drug rehabilitation.
Detoxification methods: substitution therapy, independent drug therapy, direct withdrawal, antagonistic rapid detoxification, traditional drug therapy and comprehensive therapy. The course of treatment generally does not exceed three weeks. However, this is only an early detoxification. To really get rid of drug addiction, it needs the cooperation between drug addicts and their families and hard work.
At present, the drugs for detoxification are: methadone, buprenorphine, clonidine, lofexidine, and some Chinese medicines. However, these drugs often have dependence or negative effects and cannot be abused.
On the other hand, drug addicts need people's support and care, especially their relatives, and should not be left out by the crowd. With the support of external forces and the development of rehabilitation, drug addicts need their own efforts, and the first thing is to build confidence. Confidence is established by gradually living a normal drug-free lifestyle and using skills to meet the challenges that follow. To sum up, it is the key to maintain and consolidate the long-term withdrawal state to provide drug addicts with as much knowledge and information as possible to prevent relapse and teach them some practical skills against relapse.
People around drug addicts should actively help and educate drug addicts and correct some wrong ideas and understandings in time, which can often play a very good role in drug addicts' detoxification.
We firmly believe that in the near future, the drug demon will be conquered by mankind.
