Male, that is, human, refers to male human, as opposed to female human (female). The word male is used to indicate biological gender division or cultural gender role, or both. A man usually refers to a man who transits from a boy to the next period, as opposed to a woman. But men can sometimes be used to refer to all men. When boys grow up, they become so-called men. But sometimes it is also used in spoken language to refer to young adult men.

However, the eastern European mole and the Japanese vole have no Y gene, and the female is defined as the one that produces larger gametes (that is, germ cells).
