But with the development of 1983 "strike hard", his petty theft was finally exposed. Bai Baoshan was sentenced to four years in prison for stealing property worth about 700 yuan. In prison, the inarticulate Bai Baoshan didn't get along well with his cellmates. He disdained Bai Baoshan's cellmate's exposure that Bai Baoshan hit his master on the head with a wooden stick while stealing corn, thus extending Bai Baoshan's sentence to 15.

Bai Baoshan is an out-and-out evil ghost in front of the police and the masses, but when he treats his mother and his wife and daughter, he unexpectedly has a warm side. All the crimes he committed were kept from his mother. Even when he was finally arrested, his first reaction at the moment he saw the police was to go back to the house and get the gun. But when he turned around, he saw his mother who knew nothing and gave up the idea of fighting.
Perhaps it was his cold-blooded "attaching importance to feelings and righteousness" that made Xie Zongfen stay with him even though he knew that he had killed someone and committed a crime.
1in the summer of 997, Xie Zongfen followed Bai Baoshan to Xinjiang. In two months, he committed three robberies, robbed a large number of guns, killed 10 innocent people, including police and defense personnel, and injured five others. In September of the same year, Xie Zongfen was taken away for trial by Yibin Public Security Bureau for visiting his parents in his hometown. He was finally arrested and sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment for robbery and cover-up 12 years.
