First of all, we must distinguish the upper and lower heads of the door. When facing the gate, the right hand direction is the top, and the left hand direction is the bottom. When pasting couplets, paste the first couplet and the second couplet. After liberation, because the horizontal writing format was changed from left to right, Spring Festival couplets can also be hung left and right, and the order of banners is also from left to right, which is suitable for people's reading habits. It is not civilized to "mix" two Spring Festival couplets together.
The origin of Spring Festival couplets:
Spring Festival couplets appeared in the Southern and Northern Dynasties. They are things that people pray for good luck and happiness. They were cut into the words "Yichun" in the spring and pasted on colored paper for daily use. Some of them are auspicious words written in a single sentence and posted on the lintel.
According to the Records of Jingchu Chunqiu in Liang Zonggu of the Southern Dynasties, at that time, in Rixiang and Hubei areas of beginning of spring, people not only cut colored silk into swallows and put it on their heads, but also wrote the word "Yichun" at home, which was also called Spring Post.
In the Tang Dynasty, Sun Simiao's "A Thousand Women's Jade Orders" also mentioned that people posted Yichun posts when they were in beginning of spring. As beginning of spring is approaching the Spring Festival, and the forms of Yichun Post are similar to those of Spring Post and Horizontal Post, some scholars think that Spring Post and Horizontal Post are directly derived from Yichun Post, but with different names.
